Hi, I’m Mayuri Bajaj, the creator behind The Twisted Knob.
My relationship with home, independence, and creating with my own hands started long before I ever picked up a tool.
Growing up, so much was handled for us. There were helpers, contractors, and experts for almost everything. But when my parents had to make a big move to another city, I stayed behind with my younger sibling and lived with extended family. In many ways, I had to grow up quickly and learn how to take charge of things that once felt completely outside of me. Even something as simple as changing a light bulb felt intimidating — and if the bathroom light went out, it almost felt easier to walk in the dark than figure out how to fix it.
That feeling stayed with me for a long time: the quiet fear that I was not capable of making things happen on my own.
But life also gave me beautiful reasons to grow. After getting married and becoming a mother, I found myself constantly learning, adapting, and showing up for my family. I followed my children like a shadow, not wanting to miss any part of their childhood, especially the moments I felt I had missed in my own. And somewhere in that season of motherhood, homemaking, and self-learning, I started asking myself, “What if I could learn this too?”
So I began. One project at a time.
I still remember my first brick wall project. It was not just a DIY. It was a turning point. For the first time, I felt the power of changing something with my own hands. I realized my home was not just a place to decorate — it was a canvas I could shape, layer, and transform. Creating one storied space at a time, I began sharing the projects, the process, the messy middle, and the magic of transforming ordinary corners into meaningful rooms. It helped me rewrite the story I had carried for so long, from feeling scared and incapable to realizing I could create beauty, solve problems, and build something meaningful myself.
That first project gave me courage. The rest became history.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As I always say, there is beauty in imperfection.
Behind every finished room and beautiful reveal, there has been a lot of fear, learning, and showing up anyway. I started from the very beginning, with no experience in content creation and very little experience in DIY. I was not only learning how to use tools, plan projects, source materials, and bring ideas to life — I was also learning how to film, edit, write, share, and build a platform around the work as I was doing it. In many ways, I was building the rooms and the brand at the same time.
Every project carried its own kind of fear. When you are transforming the actual home your family lives in, the risk feels deeply personal. There was always that quiet voice asking, “What if this does not turn out the way I imagined? What if I make the space worse instead of better?” Even investing in tools and materials felt like a leap of faith because I did not know if I could carry the vision forward or if I had what it took to keep growing.
Building an online platform added another layer of challenge. Staying consistent when a post performs well is easy. Staying consistent when the work feels unseen is where the real discipline begins. There were many moments when low performance made me question whether I should keep going, whether my voice mattered, or whether the effort was reaching anyone at all.
The hardest part was learning to keep showing up without immediate proof that it was working. I had to build trust in myself before the outside validation came. Over time, I realized that anything meaningful requires patience, resilience, and the courage to keep creating even when doubt is loud. This journey has taught me that growth is not always visible at first, but every time I choose to continue, I am building something stronger — in my home, in my work, and in myself.

At my core, I am a creative soul who sees possibility in the ordinary.
Through The Twisted Knob, my work is about transforming builder-grade rooms into spaces that feel meaningful, soulful, and deeply personal. I do not look at a plain wall, an empty corner, or a standard room and see something finished. I see a canvas. I see an opportunity to layer in warmth, history, character, and a little bit of magic.
I specialize in designing, creating, and transforming spaces by hand. My work is rooted in warmth, character, and storytelling — the kind of details that make a room feel collected, lived in, and loved. I am drawn to old homes, worn textures, worldly charm, architectural details, and spaces that feel like they have a timeless character from the past. I love bringing that feeling into ordinary homes in a way that feels thoughtful, approachable, and full of intention.
What I am known for is creating storied spaces, built by hand. To me, that means more than a beautiful reveal. It means creating rooms that feel like they hold memory. Rooms with depth. Rooms with soul. Rooms that make people pause, feel something, and imagine what is possible in their own homes.
Intention is everything. What sets my work apart is the way I combine design with storytelling. I do not just want to decorate a space. I want to create an experience. I want a room to feel like a portal — transporting someone from the everyday into a place that feels warm, layered, and alive. Whether it is a ceiling treatment, a moodboard transformation, a handmade detail, or a small styling moment, I approach every corner with the belief that beauty should feel deeply personal.
What I am most proud of is the journey my work allows others to witness and begin for themselves. I share the raw process: the uncertainty, the problem-solving, the mistakes, the messy middle, and the moment when the vision finally comes together. I am proud that my content does not just inspire people to admire a room, but encourages them to believe they can create one too. I am proud that I continue to show up for myself — choosing to stay inspired, trust the process, and find beauty in the imperfect moments along the way.
The heart behind the work is deeply unique. This space is where I found my passion, my confidence, and my sense of belonging. Every project reminds me that I am exactly where I am meant to be — creating, learning, and helping others see their homes differently.
It is about helping people feel connected to where they live. It is about showing that a home can be shaped slowly, intentionally, and with your own hands. And it is about proving that even the most ordinary room can become something unforgettable when you pour story, soul, and love into it.

My hubby, my kiddos.
My husband has been my biggest cheerleader, my steady support, and the person who has believed in me even in the moments when I questioned myself. He has seen the late nights, the messy rooms, the doubt, the excitement, and the amount of heart that goes into building this dream. Having someone beside me who encourages the vision, celebrates the small wins, and reminds me to keep going has meant everything.
My kids have also been right by my side through this journey. They have grown up around projects, paint, tools, content days, and rooms in progress. They have watched me learn, create, fail, try again, and build something from the ground up. In many ways, they are a big part of why I do this. I want them to see what it looks like to follow a passion, take chances, and show up for something you believe in.
The Twisted Knob may be my work, but it has never felt like something I built completely alone. My family has been the heart behind it — cheering me on, giving me grace, and reminding me why creating a meaningful home matters so much in the first place.
