Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Michail.
Hi Mary, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I fell in love with psychology in high school when I took a course and decided that it was going to be my career path. Thankfully I was able to work hard and achieve me dreams.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Everyone has challenges and at times I had encountered some personal struggles that delayed my ability to begin my private practice. Eventually I was able to go out on my own. It is the best decision I have ever made.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am sort of a jack of all trades. Initially in my career my focus was children and adolescents. In the first 15 years I worked mainly with children and adolescents. Eventually after opening my practice, I began to treat adults and couples. I enjoy helping others find solutions to their challenges and growing emotionally.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Working as a therapist can be difficult. The long hours and revolving door of seeing one client after another can quickly create burn out. It is important that therapists both seasoned and new have their own support. Taking care of your emotionally well being is utterly important and having a therapist and regular counseling is key to being a healthy and functional clinician.
