Daily Inspiration: Meet Marcel Steward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcel Steward.

Marcel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I Started Music At 10 Years Old in the Church Band Playing the Drums and as I performer. That same year I was introduced to a karaoke machine that I received as a gift for Christmas gift from my foster parents, and then I really feel in love with rapping performing over No Limit Master P, Lil Wayne, 2 Pac, and Bone Thugs and Harmony Records. At the age of 15, I bought my first computer with recording, beat production, and graphic design software and started recording in my mother’s attic with my friends. I dropped out of High School to pursue my dreams in music instead of football. I obtain my GED, and soon after the age of 19, I went to Munich, Germany, and attended SAE Institute, managed to get a record deal and an internship at a tv company. I later moved back to the states 2 years later and had a couple more children and focused on raising my children but then at 25, I built a home studio and went back to school (Specs Howard School of Media Arts) for television and broadcast. After Graduating and Receiving a Diploma in Radio, Video, and Television, I opened my own production studio and record label ATM Entertainment (AddictedToMusik). I’ve been professionally recording artists, producing music, mixing and mastering, Photoshoots, graphic designing, shooting and editing music videos, and being an artist. I always enjoyed rapping even as a teenager I had a rap group with some friends called Young Soulja’s, and we performed at every school event! I was in another group called SMG in my adult years with friends from Detroit and a friend from Austria that met while attending school back when I was 19. My true passion, I believe is and feel the most fulfilling to me is helping others chase their dreams and be the product you need to help talented and creative human beings to achieve their goals!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As I kid, I Gee up partly in a foster home due to my mother and father being addicted to drugs and alcohol. It was rough but something that I needed to experience from different type of lifestyle. I struggle for a long time growing up without family which affected me when I became a grown adult with abandoned issues which just dug me more into music it has always been my getaway and a way to be creative without a soul. When I started my career in Germany, I had a child which made me come back home and put my dreams on hold to help raise her. When I came back, I got totally distracted from music and my family and got into the streets. Soon after having my 2 children, I stared back school and decided to get into media arts. This eventually got me back to making music and out the streets totally after my 3rd child. I soon started my production and photography studios and began making music myself and helping others professionally. 2 years into owning n operating my own recording studio and label, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes Because of my lifestyle. I got depressed about it and fell ill to it. Shortly after getting diagnosed with this disease, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I stop doing music and took a break to take care of mother until she passed away. 2 years after she passed, I begin chasing my dreams again. I lost 5 close friends through my journey, My Uncle, I lost 2 Aunties, a couple cousins, and my grandmother. I never gave up, but I have dark moments and wanting to give up because of grieving or not being in the position I think I should be in because of life problems. But I never gave up and refuse to because this is my life

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Rap Artist, Sound Engineer, music producer, graphic designer, photographer, and videographer. I’m known for my mixing and mastering skills. I’ve came along always in my music production as well and have made some great projects with some good artist. I’m proud to have had the chance to record, mix and master the project for the million-man march in 2016 with Louis Farrakhan. The fact that I lived in 2 different countries and 4 different states growing up, I heard a lot of different music which made me open to any genre of music and make me like it as it sounds and feels good is what separates me from others.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love mostly everything about our city! It’s Motown, where it all started! I wish our city would accept different music other than our own!
