Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Jacks.
Hi Lauren, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My passion for hospitality and creating impactful experiences started at the ripe age of 8, when my mother taught me how to make balloon animals. I had always been a creative child, so we weren’t surprised when this ended up as my obligatory “fun fact” during every first day of school.
In college, I wasn’t aware that hospitality was such a fun industry and that I could make a career out of it until I interned for an incredible wedding planner during the summer. After playing around with florals, scouting the internet for the best venue spaces, and helping her design showstopping events, I realized that I belonged in this industry. I started working with a big event company and have the honor of managing some of the most elegant event spaces that Michigan has to offer. While venue management tickled the logistic fancy, I still needed something more creative to feel fulfilled, and started offering wedding planning and coordination services to local couples in 2020. My couples have taken me from their backyards, to beautiful downtown venues, to lakeside properties, and even to other states, and I’m so grateful.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I launched my company in February of 2020, which was understandably a horribly timed opening. And while I love what I do, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t downright exhausting showing up for myself, my clients, my family, and my coworkers every day, especially being both a small business owner and a full-time employee of another large company. That’s why I prioritize relationship building – the connections you make in your personal and professional lives are what will guide you through the struggles. My relationships with my vendors, my family, and my team keep me going, push me to do and be better, and hold me accountable.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
This is my favorite question! I love showing my clients how much I bring to the table. Being that I come from managing luxury wedding venues, I know the ins and outs of event spaces, their intended use, and what works well versus what doesn’t. That puts me at an advantage for my couples and for my vendor partners because I am setting everyone up for success.
I also place a huge emphasis on creating a unique experience for my couples and their guests. My tagline is, “Creating stunning events for intentional couples. Tying personality into design. Crafting unique experiences.” and I try to instill that into every one of my events. Whether it’s creating a tableside martini cart during dinner service as their specialty item, bringing in a family photographer so guests can have an everlasting memory, or tying in pieces of their hometowns, I want to ensure a couple is represented in their event in the most authentic way.
What makes you happy?
The color yellow, a partly-cloudy 70 degree day, my dog (obvious answer), and cheesy potatoes. I’ve never had a bad experience with any of those items.
