Lauren, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi there! I’m Lauren Goetz owner of Art by Lauren.
My journey into jewelry making started with a single UV resin mold which my partner gave to me and because of that a new passion was rekindled.
I started my business by myself in May 2023 and have been women owned since then. I have expanded from UV resin rings into making UV resin jewelry including earrings, pendants, and bracelets. Besides wearable art, I also create art for your home in the form of cyanotypes, better known as sun prints, and dabble in the abstract with alcohol inks.
Each item I curate for customers is made with pride and love by yours truly.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have enjoyed the ride through valleys of high sales from local markets / events and some boutique orders, but the road has not been smooth in my journey to make my creations.
Recently, I had to change out my formula of UV resin to heighten my quality standards. With that, some of my creations have been altered or discontinued to make sure everything matches my quality standards.
The pieces I create are meant to last a lifetime and I have a 100% money back guarantee on all my jewelry creations. I maintain that guarantee to make sure I keep my promise that I’m creating a life-long trust with my customers so that they understand that I mean what I say when I want them to be hand-me-downs for the next generations.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work primarily with UV resin which is similar to epoxy resin but instead of two parts, one part is only needed and is much faster to create with versus regular epoxy resin. The brand I use is by Resin Rockers and since upgrading to their high quality products, I have been able to create pieces that truly provide someone with my high quality standards.
With this UV resin, I am able to create memories, mementos, and colorful wearable art for all ears as I also specialize in making ear plugs / gauges for those with alternative lifestyles on top of making regular earrings, pendants, and bracelets. I want to make sure that people are aware of all of my products are made just for them when they visit my booth / table.
Besides jewelry, I also make art for your home in the form of cyanotypes, acrylic paintings, and alcohol ink paintings where each piece is one of kind especially if it’s a custom order for someone near and dear to me.
What I am most proud of as a business owner is the pure joy I share with each of my customers as they recieve an order or simply see my dedication/hard work at my booth / table.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
My take on risk taking was simply starting my business with no loan or form of financial help but my own. Every day as a business owner, I take huge risks with personally not having an Etsy seller shop/shoppable website. I simply refuse to use Etsy as a seller because of their issues they present in the form of their high seller fees and allowing the presence of drop-shipping sellers.
I built this business from the ground up by myself and will continue to do so until I am not longer able and it has had a chance to bloom into the garden I wanted with buds still upon the already blossomed flowers! My business will be undergoing some big changes next year and I can not wait to see what happens next.
