Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Quinting.
Hi Laura , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a tik tok shop / Grand Rapids local/ugc content creator that went to school at grand valley state university for advertising and public relations. During covid I downloaded tik tok out of boredom but became obsessed when I found out it was a fast paced creative outlet that was rivaling YouTube for how good it was for hyperlocalized content. Their algorithm is like no other and I needed a break from the average perfectly curated content that Instagram was giving. I started posting about restaurants and fun things to do in Michigan and eventually was able to take my passion for content creation completely full time in June of 2023. I’ve posted everything from restaurant reviews , food reviews and even hotel reviews. As the platform is growing tik tok has become such a big part of my life and even my friends because we all use it to plan our staycations or look for fun things to when we are away! tik tok has shown my that my slice of heaven in Michigan has so much I’ve still yet to discover.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Content creation has a lot of hurdles such as the different algorithms, and if you are on the shy side it can be scary at first . The output of consistency really gets to be a lot as well. But as someone who’s been doing this for 3 years it’s like anything all about drive and passion and even though it’s a lot of work and time it doesn’t feel like any job I’ve had before .
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do UGC and localized Michigan content . I work with brands on their meta Facebook and Instagram ads as well as post about small businesses in Grand Rapids and surrounding areas. I’m most proud of my drive to see new things and get out to go to things people might not think of. I try to find free things to do so that people can enjoy their state at any budget .
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Facebook and Instagram has been some of the best to finding events to go to.
