Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Brown.
Hi Kim, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career began in public relations and then marketing, which I did for nearly 15 years, but I have always loved taking photos. In college, if I was with my friends, my small digital camera was in my hand. The first Christmas I celebrated with my husband when were dating he gave me my first professional camera. He has always been my number one supporter! I was still working in the corporate world so I didn’t pick it up much. Then in 2016 we had our youngest son. That’s what I picked up my camera again always wanting to capture every little moment and detail. The passion for photography really set fire inside and led me to launch my own business in the fall 2017. After five years of balancing the corporate world with my calling, I transitioned to full-time photography in November 2022 to focus wholly on capturing life stories that matter most. And most importantly, this allowed me to be a more present wife and mom.
In January 2023, I invested in myself and went on a photography retreat in Texas hosted by two photographers I had admired for years. That trip learning from these amazing women completely changed me and my photography. And that is really when my business took off!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest thing I have struggled with over the years, and still do from time to time, is imposter syndrome. You make connections and friendships with other photographers and then you start comparing yourself to them and start rethinking everything you do. Imposter syndrome is a natural feeling and I always remind myself to look back at how far I’ve come and all the amazing clients that I get work with. I DO know what I’m doing and am doing it!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in weddings, boudoir, branding and events. I am passionate about candid, in-between moments and strive to make every photography session feel like we’re old friends catching up. My approach and what I’m most proud of is I love creating a comfortable, stress-free experience, where my clients can truly just be themselves.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Three people that I have been loving listening to lately are The Mel Robbins Podcast, On Purpose with Jay Shetty and The Jefferson Fisher Podcast. All three of these impact my personal and professional life in such a positive way and I highly recommend them!
