Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Schultz.
Hi Kelly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a lifelong wedding aficionado, but professionally, I come from a background in marketing and public relations. In early 2024, I decided to channel my passion for event planning into my own wedding consulting business: Signed & Sealed.
As Signed & Sealed enters its second wedding season this year, I am so thrilled and honored to be supporting couples in creating memories to last a lifetime. There has been a lot of learning along the way, but I’m proud of how far Signed & Sealed has come since launching early last year.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was scary to step back from the stability of a full-time corporate job in order to launch Signed & Sealed. I am incredibly lucky to have the support of a wonderful husband, and a network of family & friends who have been amazing cheerleaders along the way.
I’m also grateful to other small business owners in my network who have pointed me in the right direction to get started. From launching an LLC, to getting established on Google Business, to figuring out how to file estimated taxes – there are a lot of things to handle beyond just the wedding consulting itself!
Finally, I’ve tried to take advantage of local and online resources to learn as much as I can and connect with as many people as possible, such as networking organizations, webinars, and small business mentors. One of my first jobs was booked as a result of a networking event I attended, so I certainly found it a worthwhile use of time.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Signed & Sealed offers a unique service model called planning support that is different than a traditional full-service wedding planner. With this model, I meet with couples monthly during the 14 months leading up to their wedding, providing them with direction on the tasks to focus on, and helping them navigate questions or challenges along the way. This model comes at a more accessible price point than full-service planning, and allows couples who are excited about planning their big day to take the reins creatively, but to fall back on the support of someone who can provide them with the “road map.”
I am proud of this unique approach I created, as I believe it fills a void in the marketplace for couples who are excited to dive in but have no idea where to start, and who don’t want to spend a huge chunk of their budget on a full-service wedding planner.
I also offer coordination for couples in metro Detroit who are looking for hands-on support the day of their wedding, including handling the decor, ensuring other vendors have what they need, and creating & executing a timeline to make sure the day flows perfectly.
I believe my detail-oriented approach sets me apart. My goal is to explore every question and option with you before we get to the big day!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I have always had a Type A personality. I am the oldest of three girls, so I think some of my organization & leadership skills just came naturally.
I grew up dancing, which I think probably gave me an appreciation for all things pretty and glamorous.
I’ve always tried to give my very best to anything I take on, from serving as president of the Dance Club in college to now running the show on wedding days. I like to take my projects (even family parties that we host at home, as my husband can attest!) a step beyond ordinary to create something truly memorable.
