Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Victor.
Hi Kayla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I was that kid who always had a camera in hand. My trusty chunky Polaroid accompanied me everywhere, capturing life’s fleeting moments, which I eagerly pasted into my scrapbooks. While I have always admired the artistic creations of other photographers, my journey into photography, which began in 2021, was sparked by misgivings and profound loss.
Newborn photography was an opportunity I regrettably missed. When our daughter entered the world, my husband and I found ourselves in an incredibly challenging situation, almost without a home to call our own. Amid the whirlwind of my husband’s new job and the sale of our house, we were temporarily without a place to settle. Thankfully, my parents opened their doors to us while we navigated this phase. Amid this chaos, I captured snippets of our journey on my phone. However, I failed to seize the moment to create beautiful, lasting portraits with my daughter – something I deeply regret.
About a year later, my husband, daughter, and I found a new home in Dallas, Texas. Yet, life took an unexpected turn when my husband’s mother passed away suddenly. The pain of that loss was profound, but it was the realization that we had so few tangible memories of her for our daughter that truly haunted me. My business emerged from loss and regret, driven by the desire to spare you from those heart-wrenching emotions.
I am committed to capturing your most cherished moments and ensuring your memories are beautifully preserved. My journey is rooted in preventing others from facing the sorrow of missed opportunities and the ache of unrecorded moments.
Let’s dig deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you overcome?
Navigating the landscape of owning a business presents various challenges, each with its unique complexities. Among these, I have been working on establishing my presence in Traverse City, our new home, for the past eight months. Building awareness, forging connections, and carving out a reputation for my niche entails a lot of peaks and valleys.
Yet, within this relatively short span, I’ve had the privilege of crossing paths with many remarkable individuals, capturing their beautiful stories through my lens. The experiences gained, the stories shared, and the bonds formed amidst these encounters are invaluable treasures I hold dear. As an entrepreneur, these moments of connection make this passion so enjoyable.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
I am a lifestyle digital and film photographer. I strive to capture moments that aren’t your typical family portraits. My goal is to photograph real, raw, and emotive imagery that mothers and families can cherish for a lifetime.
I am also a full-service photography studio, meaning I create custom artwork for my clients, such as heirloom albums, framed prints, loose prints, linen photo boxes, gallery walls, and so much more.
What makes you happy?
My version of happiness is derived from family, sunshine, and the ocean.
These all can be attributed to the deep emotional connections, positive physiological effects, and peaceful environments that these bring into my life. I’ve realized that these nourish my soul, lift my spirits, and enrich my life in many meaningful ways.
