Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Cassidy.
Hi Kate, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Fling Together Collective is a registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated to the promotion and development of performance-based Scottish Highland dance through the creation of accessible educational opportunities, scholarship programs, and cultural exchanges. Fling Together was initially founded in response to the global pandemic that physically separated our community. As we adapt and grow, we continue our mission of fostering collaboration while connecting dancers with performance opportunities and each other.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Innovation is always challenging, and carving out a space for non-competitive Highland Dance in a space that can be competitively focused, especially within the United States, has been challenging.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our board includes Scottish highland dancers, some competitive and some performance based, and also teachers.
How do you think about luck?
We’ve been fortunate to make some amazing connections along the way. Mentorship plays a big role in our growth, and you never know what opportunities professional connections may bring!
