Daily Inspiration: Meet Julia Gasparetto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Gasparetto.

Hi Julia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started off my photography journey the moment my mother bought me my first camera, at the age of 13. I started taking pictures of my family, friends, and vacation trips. My love for taking pictures of life’s moments really just grew from there. I took breaks here and there, as I was in high school focusing on studies and cheerleading. It wasn’t until the beginning of 2018 that it all started for me. My first “gig” I guess you could say, was taking newborn pictures of my now, Godson. These were nothing special as I did not have the education or experience yet, but this is where it started to take off. Word of mouth is a powerful thing! Fast forward to the year 2020. Once restrictions were becoming more lenient and families were traveling out and about, my business took off. New faces began reaching out to me from all over the Metro- Detroit area, and I was busier than ever. The adjustment from shooting every once in a while, to having 2 to 3 shoots a week was definitely a challenge, as I was working an office job and going to college full time. After the conclusion of 2021, people were still reaching out for family, newborn, and senior sessions. I began booking weddings and sessions, more frequently and ultimately decided that this was something I was going to pursue as long as I could. Now in 2022, my passion for photography has not only grown through bookings but through relationships as well. The opportunity and privilege of photographing families through all their stages and milestones of life have been the most rewarding. I am busier than ever now, and seriously loving it! I now have found what truly makes me happy, and that is capturing moments. Whether that is the moment you say “I Do!” or the weeks after a little one’s birth – I truly cannot get enough of it!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting my photography journey was not easy, as word of mouth is one of the main factors. Getting your work out there when you’re just starting from the bottom and building your portfolio can be hard. Once those few strangers trusted me to photograph important times in their lives, that is where my small business began to grow. I will forever be thankful for those who trusted me to capture their moments when I was just starting out. You know who you are!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a portrait and lifestyle photographer, specializing in newborns and families! Although those are my favorites, I do shoot seniors, maternity, cake smash/ milestones – etc.! I also take on about 10 weddings a year, just to get my fix on love! I cover just about everything, so I am able to capture families as they grow. From their weddings to the birth of their children, to their children’s milestones.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to those just starting out would be to practice, practice, practice! Eventually, those people will come that are willing to take a leap and see what you can create for them. It’s those first couple of people that really influence the start of doing something that you love! There will be slow seasons where you are not consistently shooting, and that’s okay! Take that time to dive into education and the backside of your business. Clients will come and will share their positive experiences with others, which will help you grow!
