Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Felix.
Hi Jordan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, I’ve been a. creative my whole life. As a kid, I was in choir from 5th grade until I graduated. In choir, I sang in different languages, had to sight read, had many lead roles in musicals and plays, and even would perform the national anthem at home games before playing in the game during my senior season of basketball, football, and baseball. Once I graduated and went to college at Ferris State in Big Rapids, MI, I joined my fraternity Pi Lambda Phi my first semester and was introduced to the art of DJ’ing, which quickly turned into rap and melodic style freestyling with the brothers. This is what got me into recording my own music, I recorded my first song at Ferris’ studio and did my first show at a Ferris Halloween party, this was my first sold out show. Eventually, I left school to pursue music full-time, and just like many other artists, I had lots of ups and downs and stumbled upon an opportunity to learn and work in a dispensary. This gave me the knowledge I needed to elevate in that space, and that is how I landed the job with LIV cannabis, where I am a leader on the retail ops team and a general manager of my own LIV location in Westland. The cannabis industry and music industry go hand and hand, and as I saw more success in the cannabis industry, my music began to benefit off that as well. Currently, I work for LIV and perform regularly at festivals and shows throughout the city every year. I also am the host of my own podcast/talk show called The Loft 313.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not. When I was first starting out, I didn’t know much about the business, so my first deal was a 360 deal with a family member’s record company. Once realizing I was signed to a bad deal, a friend and I came together to buy me out of the contract and started our own label called Live Hype Entertainment, during my time with Live Hype, we spent lots of money on marketing, studio time, videos, features, and some things worked out and others didn’t. There was a lot of trail and errors during that time, but that shaped me to be the artist I am today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Well, I am known as a jack of all trades. I am a rapper/singer/songwriter. My music is known to be very versatile; Almost none of my songs sound the same because of my use of intricate flows and my beat selection. So, you can always expect the unexpected from me when it comes to music. On the other hand, I’m known as the weed guy. So, a lot of people watch my podcast to get a taste of both of those worlds, seeing me sit down and hang with my friends in the industry, get high, and just kick knowledge and positivity.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I love seeing other people happy and winning. Music makes me genuinely happy. Weed makes me extremely happy. And my friends and people I care about, just knowing they good and being able to talk to them and spend quality time is always nice. Oh, and money of course, money makes me very happy lol
