Daily Inspiration: Meet Jessey Adams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessey Adams

Hi Jessey, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was 16, I played an open mic at Schmelter Stoney Acres in Linden, MI. This was the first time I performed my own music for a crowd and I fell in love with the feeling of being up on a stage under neon lights. It was immediately an addiction. I knew I wanted to push it further than open mics. I started by reaching out to local bars with music and eventually began playing more and more venues throughout high school. I have also always loved traveling, so I wanted to find a way to combine the two. I started by going down to Nashville, TN to record some music and then began traveling from state to state. Sometimes I perform in an area for a weekend and other times for a month. Often when I travel from place to place, I sleep in a tent in my truck bed. I have traveled through over half of the states, as well as 5 Canadian provinces in the past year to get to shows. In 2024, I have started receiving recognition in multiple competitions. I won the overall title in the Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival completion, am currently a semi-finalist in the Michigan State Fair Superstars competition (ongoing) and made it to the semi-final round of the Tennessee Songwriters Week competition.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am completely self managed which can get very stressful and frustrating. At 16, I took on the roles of managing show bookings, social media, website, promotions and graphic design on top of being a singer/songwriter. Now with travel added, I am planning out routes, accommodations and the general logistics of each “tour”. It can become extremely overwhelming, especially if things are not coming together the way I planned, which they usually don’t. Money is not steady. Some weeks are incredible and others are polar opposite. I’ve played in multiple small bars with five customers the whole night. Even in places like that though, I don’t mind. I love what I do so much that I could play for a crowd of 5 and leave smiling.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a country singer/songwriter. I have traveled across the US and Canada to perform. I have loved music for as long as I know. Growing up, I remember sitting around a campfire singing along with my mom as she played guitar. I started becoming more serious about learning to play guitar and write songs when I was around 14 years old. In this past year, I won the Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival competition, am a current semi-finalist in the Michigan State Fair Superstars competition (ongoing) and made it to the semi-final round of the Tennessee Songwriters Week competition. I started releasing original music in October 2023, which has now been streamed in over 50 countries. I will get messages from strangers on social media saying how much they enjoy my music, which means the world to me.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Going to my family’s cabin in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. This place was built by my family and has been in it for multiple generations. There is nothing fancy about it. The faucet spits, even running one appliance makes the lights dim and the floors are uneven. It’s got old screen doors and no signal. I love there. All of my favorite childhood memories are in that cabin. Life is simple and slow there. I think a lot of my music pulls from those memories.
