Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremiah Barker.
Hi Jeremiah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had a great friend take me to an underground dance club in Detroit around the year 2001. There’s all sorts of different types of people at this venue. There was a DJ playing House in techno music while everyone dance in a dark room. I loved the connection, I loved the music, I felt at home. Short time after I got my first set of belt driven turntables and started collecting vinyl. It’s been a long journey for over 20 years I’ve collected vinyl and played dance music. I love bringing people together with music. The dance floor is the only place race religion, sex or politics are forgotten, and people can be their true selves.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s always bumps in the road. There’s always New Gear to buy. There’s always new Flyers to create. There’s always new venues to try. I’ve played for empty dance floors many times and I’ve also played for thousands of people. At the end of the day the struggle is what builds the dance floor. The DJ conducts the dancers.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Growing up in the Detroit area I was fortunate to see a lot of really good live music. I was fortunate to see and hear a lot of great dance music. I think the shaped my sound and who I am as a dj. I like timeless music and sounds that bring a vibe together. I like to take people on a journey with my music. I read the crowd, I don’t just play what I love I play what people are dancing to.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Two of my oldest friends Richard Kallis and Dylan Baldwin showed me dance music. They helped teach me to match Beats before I even graduated high school. But I really give the credit to all the dancers that have danced to my DJ sets along the way. They are the ones that inspire me to keep doing what I am doing.
