Daily Inspiration: Meet Jenn’s Apartment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn’s Apartment.

Hi Jenn’s, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Jenn’s Apartment originally formed in 2004 and was active until 2007. In 2014, Roy Kirby brought the band back with Chris Davis on bass and Justin Pine on drums, and that same lineup has been going strong ever since. For more than ten years, we’ve been playing shows across the Midwest and doing everything we can to deliver the best live set possible every time we hit the stage.

We’re a Lansing, Michigan rock power trio built for live rooms, loud singalongs, and songs that hit hard but still stick with you. Our sound pulls from 90s alternative, early 2000s punk and emo, and straight-up rock songwriting, mixing ringing guitars, big harmonies, and a rhythm section that stays tight and drives everything forward.

Since 2014, we’ve released several EPs, full-length albums, played shows around Michigan and the midwest, and continued to build our sound.

For fans of The Replacements, Gaslight Anthem, Gin Blossoms, and Goo Goo Dolls.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A primary struggle for any DIY band is the lack of financial backing. Funding a band can become costly. We have recorded all our releases ourselves, do all our own show booking (with occasional help from DIY booking collectives), and do everything on our own terms. The pandemic stalled our momentum and the resulting shift of social culture and its impact on social gatherings have continued to put a strain on the live music industry.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are known for our energetic live shows, funny stage banter, and being a band that just likes having a good time whether there’s 5 people in the audience or 500. What sets us apart is our longevity. Not many bands last more than three years; we’ve been going strong for more than ten.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
For books, we recommend The Dark Tower Series and author Kurt Vonnegut’s work. Podcasts, we are currently listening to Behind the Bastards and Long Shadow.
