Daily Inspiration: Meet Jennifer Pickering

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Pickering

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have a BA in fashion merchandising from Wayne State University. I work as a freelance wardrobe stylist and content creator with a focus on sustainable fashion and healthy living. I started my blog and Instagram account in 2014 when I was working an office job and needed a creative outlet.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have definitely been some struggles, especially when trying to make this my full-time job. Being freelance means I could have months with so much work and other months with nothing. Luckily, now that I am creating content, work is somewhat more steady. It also took me a bit to actually find work as a wardrobe stylist. I got lucky and then people kept recommending me to other magazines and production companies.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I focus on sustainability and sustainable fashion. This is quite rare since most content creators do haul after haul with Shein, Temu, Walmart, Amazon, etc. I hate that! No one needs that many clothes. I try to bring awareness and educate my followers on how bad the fast fashion industry is and how they can be more conscious of their shopping habits. I could go on and on about my hatred for the fast fashion industry and how it is the second-largest polluter in the world.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Lots of things. My pets. Friends. Family. Travelling, especially to Istanbul/Turkiye. Iced coffee. My workout classes.
