Daily Inspiration: Meet Jadschi Coach Ja Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jadschi Coach Ja Green.

Hi Jadschi Coach Ja , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I think boxing was in me from way back, my father (RIH) was a amateur AAU champion and a professional boxer, but as far as competition for me was March 21st 199, 10 before my 14th birthday. On March 14th 1992 I attended a boxing show where I seen my 2 older brothers box, and I was hooked. I walked over to coach Woody Topp and told him I’ll be down to the gym on Monday, by Wednesday I sparred, by Saturday I was in my first fight. I won, my father was the ref as he started to be an official the same year. I went on to capture silver Gloves titles, Jr. Olympic titles, and golden glove titles (6) made history in 1995 with my 2 brothers being the first 3 brothers to win golden glove state titles in the same tournament. Also the same year the gym we were connected to stopped it’s boxing program causing me to travel from Kalamazoo to Grand Rapids for about 3 and a half years winning the 1999 U.S championships under coach Randy Sutter, who connected me to Emmanuel Steward who helped train me for the 2000 Eastern Olympic Trials where I lost in the quarter finals. I turned pro that same year moving to East Orange, New Jersey (2000-2005). In 2014 I moved backed to Michigan in hopes to get back in the ring, but on the morning of August 16, 2015 I went out for a run, later that evening in my apartment I had a stroke on my couch. Soon after I started training a young lady named Emily Holt. Determined to compete again I started back running, and light training. Test after test I had to go through to get cleared to fight, I fought my last fight at the age of 39. In 2020 I started to train fighters again and started the ChampsDen Boxing club, and produced 3 tournament champions between 2020 and 2023 in Maurice Davis, Elijah Knight, and Marcus Decamp. All who I’ve trained out of my home basement. I now have a team of about 11 all looking to compete in the near future, until then we just stay ready on our ChampChit 🥊 looking to put on our own shows, and also compete in other shows and tournaments.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think any success comes easy, always obstacles and struggles. A lot of the equipment and travel has been money out of my own pocket, a lot of fighters that come and go. Days I struggled because I’m the only coach, I also have full time job. But I know the end result will be gratifying.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a amateur boxing coach. I train and teach basiç boxing fundamentals. I’m proud to know that I give a safe place, and I produce champions. I think what sets me apart is the work ethic, the determination, and the fact that I care about my team. I want them to know when they walk in the door, you’re a champion. When you leave you’re a champion. Be a champion no matter what you choose to do.

What’s next?
My plans for the future is to continue to change lives, looking forward to building more champions inside and outside the ring. And the big change would be to get a building, to offer more space to cater to more of the youth
