Today we’d like to introduce you to Tank and Kandy. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Imperfectly Perfect Couple started when Tank proposed to Kandy a year after our son was born. We had an honest conversation about prioritizing Kandy’s education, which led to a delay in getting married. But life had other plans, and we welcomed three more children and even bought our first home! Of course, people would ask when we were tying the knot, and our response sparked some amazing conversations.
We shared our reasoning, and many couples expressed regret for not waiting or doing things differently. We realized that our journey, though unconventional, could inspire others to create a life that fits them best, even if it’s not the traditional way. And that’s how our podcast, Imperfectly Perfect Couple, was born! We’re all about sharing our story of being together for 18 years without breaks and encouraging others to embrace their imperfections and create a life that works for them.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We faced judgment from family and friends who didn’t understand our decision to prioritize education and starting a family before getting married, as well as societal pressure to conform to traditional relationship milestones. We often felt like we were swimming against the tide and doubting our decisions while dealing with criticism from those who thought we were “doing things backward” or “setting a bad example.”
Additionally, we navigated financial and logistical challenges as a growing family without marriage’s legal and financial benefits. Despite these challenges, we knew we were making the right decisions for us and our unique circumstances. Now, through our podcast, we hope to inspire others to own their choices and create a life that works for them, regardless of what others may think!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Tank has experience in the hospital setting providing oncology services. He is currently an entrepreneur in logistics and public services to help aid the elderly and disabled population. Kandy is currently a Master’s level social worker in the medical field.
We are both proud of helping our community and being able to set a great example for our children. What sets us apart from others is our focus on transforming generational limitations into generational wealth.
Do you have any advice for those just starting?
For those just starting, we would offer the following advice: embrace your uniqueness, prioritize what matters most, communicate openly, don’t compare your journey to others, be patient and flexible, support each other’s growth, seek help when needed, and keep love and laughter alive.
If we could go back in time, we would tell ourselves to trust our instincts, not worry about what others think, take more risks, prioritize self-care, and not be afraid to make mistakes. Remember, your journey is unique and beautiful – own and cherish it!”
