Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Owen
Hi Haley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always wanted to be a model. Not just to be a popular face, but to have a platform and be a role model. My husband is a rapper and his message is the same as mine, together we want to show that you don’t have to go to parties, do drugs and sleep with a bunch of people to be “cool.” Be yourself, the world sucks.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
You will always have to overcome obstacles in any dream you have. For my husband and I, we have to be driven and believe in ourselves 110% of the time. The model/music industry is very saturated and really hard to make it to the top. And let me tell you, getting turned down from a job you really want sucks. One thing I have struggled the most with in the past is my confidence. But I learned not long into my career that to make it anywhere in life, you have to be good at your passion but you also have to have personality. Be different, and have a mission. Have something that sets you apart from everyone else.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a model, I specialize in commercial and editorial style modeling. This means I walk the runway, and I get to play dress up and get featured on business’ websites and campaigns. I actually live about an hour and a half from Detroit where my business is based, so I drive back and forth about 5 days a week. Since I live so far away, I miss a lot of opportunities that would have fallen into my lap if I was closer. So I have to be constantly networking on my phone and sticking my nose into everything so I can stay booked and busy. This means I work ALL THE TIME. Believe it or not, I’m not as proud of the materialistic accomplishments as I am of myself for working as hard as I do.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to never sacrifice your morals for bigger opportunities. For me and my morals, the modeling industry has a lot of things that I don’t agree with. I have to be on the lookout all the time to make sure I’m not doing something I may regret later. That’s one thing that sets me apart; I will happily walk off the biggest job if they try to make me do something I’m uncomfortable with.
