Daily Inspiration: Meet David Holowchak

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Holowchak.

Hi David, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The history of my brand’s development is based on the love of golf.
Originally started as an event planning organization, setting up outings and golf related events, we quickly evolved into a small Midwest brand, trying to offer uniquely designed goods and gear that you wouldn’t find anywhere else.
Today we have grown but still maintain that small, local, word of mouth type brand. If you interacted with us or perhaps are a customer/ fan of our brand, you understand the draw and connection we try to instill. We welcome everyone to the Nomad Nation (our fan base and general patronage) regardless of who you are or where your game is, through our interactions and social media, where everyone is invited to participate and showcase their love for the game and our brand.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It is a very difficult thing to compete in the golf goods market. It is so overly saturated with so much competition. If you think you are offering something unique, hold up and do a search because I can guarantee a lot of the unique ideas have been brought to the table.
We’re not doing anything that isn’t already available to the public in some way, shape, or form. The things that separate our brand from others is that we’re not afraid to dip into a myriad of things or fail at them either. We try and offer really unique designs in our own branded products and at the same time we’re open to developing other people’s ideas, brands, custom products and even production if needed. We don’t close our doors to sharing knowledge or helping.
The hardest part of being a good brand is finding your way and getting acknowledgement. It is a very costly and difficult road to traverse and many times we just about gave up. It’s the Nomad Nation that keeps us coming back and asking for more or showing some love that makes us want to keep going, with or without the large capital backing that brands need to really push themselves over the hump.
We hope we can continue to bring something to the table and offer amazing products and services to our fans and the market.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in design really; we create very distinct and unique golf related items under the brand, Golf Nomad. Starting in unique putter covers, which we used to collect, we have broadened our offerings to putters, hats, apparel and more. In doing so we’ve also worked with other companies, people and brands to develop their own logos, designs and goods. We’re really proud of our ability to be adaptable, evolve where we need to, and the capability to share with like- minds. I think our openness to working with others and providing unique services is something most brands would keep behind closed doors.

Any big plans?
In the near future we’re hoping to really dedicate our brand to a pared- down product line. We want to specialize in a few categories and not all of them, which we tried but unfortunately it’s just not possible to maintain or compete with those that do.
We will continue to offer small batch items and unique designs and are very adaptable to what the market requires, even if that means changing our brand name or evolving into a very specific niche.
