Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Saab
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My love for creative / visual arts started as soon as I could hold a pencil or a paintbrush! I’ve struggled with school my entire life as I just lacked the focus where there was no passion. I didn’t have the most stable childhood but my constant was art. It was always there for me. I tried college after high school, dropped out fairly quickly. I then worked many dead-end jobs that paid terrible/mistreated their employees. I got to a point in my life where I realized I deserved happiness & success as much as the next person, after many years of not believing that I did.. I was stuck. It all started with finding PMU, aka permanent makeup! I got into the industry, taught myself, built my clientele, had MANY hardships/scary times, but I hustled. It was only a matter of time that I would take up tattooing as well. I worked in a shop luckily, around talented artists who helped me if I ever needed it & I’ve built up such an amazing clientele it doesn’t feel real sometimes. I’ve come so far in my art & still have so much to learn!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Far from it. The first place I started as a PMU artist was a med spa. Unfortunately, I was treated very poorly due to my ethnic background/cultural differences. When I gave my notice of leave, they told me the words “you will never make it on your own!” I hold those memories very close to me now, & they continue to push me almost 4 years later. I’m in a loving & welcoming work environment now too, which helps!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have always had the most passion in my heart for nature & science. Whether it’s animals, botanicals, insects, florals/fauna, marine life, & everything between! I was the kid looking for bugs & trying to speak to animals all the time lol. (Still am….) The concept that something imperfect can be something so beautiful really resonates with me. My artwork, mainly black & gray / fineline tattooing now, reflects nature’s beauty & flow. I especially am a fan of adorning the human body! The most amazing & complex creation.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Integrity holds the highest value to me at this point of my career. I refuse to be the artist / service provider that does something JUST for the $. Will this look good down the road healed? Does it suit their facial structure (for brows!!!)? Does it suit their body part? Is it offensive? Am I passionate about it enough to permanently mark someone with it? These are all things I consider in my process of taking clients on. I’m definitely a bit “pickier” on my projects, but it’s because I care so much & want to give my all.
