Daily Inspiration: Meet Cindy Peters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Peters.

Hi Cindy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We moved to Michigan from Chicago about 9 years ago to live a simple self-sustaining lifestyle. We grow a huge organic garden every year and can the food we grow every fall. We have a small fruit orchard which includes 3 varieties of apples, 4 varieties of cherries, strawberries, raspberries, and concord grapes. We also grow an heirloom variety of Loofah sponges. We make as much as possible from scratch, for example, ice cream, vanilla, salad dressings, and all of our meals. We have minimal waste as well, it either goes to our farm animals, the freezer, or the compost pile. We have goats, chickens, ducks, and geese. Cindy makes all-natural skincare and cleaning products as well as goats’ milk soaps and baked goods… Starting in May we do several Farm Markets a week and a few craft shows throughout the year as well. We enjoy meeting new people at the markets and sharing our love of living a self-sustaining lifestyle. And educating people about our all-natural products.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
They’re always obstacles and challenges with farming. Lots of repairs and helping our goats deliver kids and bottle-feeding goat kids when the moms have no interest in feeding them. We make our own goat formula as well. There’s never a dull moment here. We have learned a lot over the years and gotten great advice from fellow farm owners.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
