Daily Inspiration: Meet Carla Cooke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Cooke.

Hi Carla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am the daughter of the Legendary Sam Cooke. I started in the entertainment business in 2016 when I was asked to be a part of the “Daughters of Legends” featuring myself, Rhonda Ross daughter of Diana Ross and Robyn Charles daughter of Ray Charles. After our tour ended, I decided to go on my own and perform a solo tribute show to my father entitled “The Sam Cooke Experience” where I sing the hit songs of my father‘s timeless recordings. Since then, I’ve been traveling all over the United States and abroad with my concert. I’m blessed to be able to bring the music of my father to so many people around the world who still love him and his music.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In this music business, you have to go through something to get where you are as a performer and much is expected from the daughter of a legend, such as Sam Cooke. Although the name Cooke may capture the attention of a buyer, I still had to prove my show was worth the price of the ticket. I believe I have done just that. It never ceases to amaze me how much people today still love my father’s music and love my interpretation of hit recordings. .

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional female vocalist who happens to be the daughter of a Legend in the music industry whose name is Sam Cooke. I perform a tribute show dedicated to my father, which is comprised of many of his hit songs. Although there are other entertainers, who perform tribute shows to my father, what makes my show unique is that it is performed by an offspring of a legend, his daughter. I’m most proud and humbled at the fact that I have the “
opportunity to showcase his music to audiences around the world. That is truly amazing.

Last year he was voted third greatest singer of all time behind Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin by Rolling Stone magazine. I guess that would make him the number one male singer, since he was behind two great legendary women of all time in the music world.

Any big plans?
I am working on some new music and I have songs that I wouldn’t mind having other artists to record. In the meantime, I will still showcase “The Sam Cooke Experience “. I have an upcoming show in New York City at “54 Below” on May 28, 2025.
