Daily Inspiration: Meet Brenda Freeman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Freeman.

Brenda Freeman

Hi Brenda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Movement has always been a part of my life. From growing up as a child running wild in midwestern farm country to playing sports in high school to adventuring as an adult in the outdoors, movement has been my greatest medicine.

As a mother and artist, I never thought pilates and owning my own studio and practice would be my full-time job. But, like all great things, I trusted my intuition and followed my passions, and it evolved into what it is today,

I started Pilates Teacher training in 2004 at a small studio in Michigan which sparked my passion to continue learning and teaching. From there, I built and implemented a Pilates program at Central Michigan University and have owned and Co-owned Studios and have taught in a variety of places with all ages and bodies, and have landed at owning my own home studio, which I absolutely love!

Beyond Pilates, I am also have certifications as a Doula, Somatic Sexological Bodyworker, Level 1 Visceral Organ Manipulation, and Art Teacher. All of these trainings make up who I am as a teacher and human. I bring my knowledge to all that I do and see the body as a whole unit capable of far more than we may give it credit for.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been smooth! Nothing ever worthwhile is a smooth road.

The hardest part of my journey was balancing my life as a single mother with the passion for my work and training. I knew from the beginning I was building a project. A project that encompassed so much of my heart and soul. This meant many sleepless nights in order to show up fully for my boys and still be able to invest time and energy into my passion as a teacher.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Classical Pilates Teacher that specializes in movement for greater muscular efficiency in life and in professional sports, trauma-informed nervous system recovery, pelvic floor health, and pre- and post-partum care.

I am also a Somatic Sexological Bodyworker which means I also work with the energy systems of the body and how trauma shows up in our muscular bodies and effects our nervous system, reproductive systems, and our relationship and ability to feel joy and pleasure in our lives.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The fitness industry as a whole is definitely moving to more individualized and personalized care. People are exhausted of the mainstream and looking to be treated and seen as an individual.
