Daily Inspiration: Meet Amanda Steffke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Steffke.

Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Amanda Steffke Photography started as just a silly dream and now has grown right alongside me for 15 years. What started as a creative passion for a young girl has turned into a wonderful business.

I became a mom at a young age, and photography quickly became so much more than taking beautiful pictures. It became a way to preserve the moments that I realized passed by far too quickly. Today, I specialize in newborns, maternity, families, and high school seniors, and I feel incredibly lucky that so many clients continue to trust me through every stage of life.

Over the years, the business has grown beyond anything I could have imagined. I’ve opened a studio, built lasting relationships with amazing clients, earned local recognition, and balanced running my photography business while raising my family and co-owning another small business with my husband. Through it all, my goal has stayed the same: to create timeless images that families will treasure for generations while making every client feel comfortable, valued, and cared for.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. Like most small business owners, there have been plenty of challenges along the way. I started this business while I was still very young and learning not only the photography skills, but also how to run a business. Every stage has brought new obstacles, from balancing motherhood with entrepreneurship, to navigating the busy and slow seasons, adapting to changes in social media, investing in equipment and education, and learning to wear every hat that comes with owning a business.

One of the biggest lessons has been realizing that success isn’t about avoiding challenges. It’s about continuing to show up through them. There have been seasons where I’ve questioned myself, worked long nights after my kids went to bed, or wondered what the next chapter would look like. But every challenge has helped shape both me and my business.

Looking back, I’m grateful it wasn’t a perfectly smooth road. The difficult seasons taught me resilience, strengthened my relationships with my clients, and reminded me why I started in the first place, to preserve the moments that matter most for families like mine.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Over the years, my business has evolved alongside my own life. I began by photographing families, couples, and weddings, and as my family grew, so did my passion for documenting the earliest stages of life. Today, I specialize in newborns, maternity, families, and high school seniors, with newborn photography becoming a larger focus over the past several years.

One of the things I’m most proud of is the experience I’ve created for my clients inside my historic downtown Clare studio. The studio has become a place where families can slow down, relax, and enjoy the process. I’ve intentionally designed it to feel warm, welcoming, and comfortable, especially for new parents who already have enough on their minds. Having a dedicated studio has allowed me to offer a consistent experience year-round while still incorporating beautiful outdoor locations throughout Mid-Michigan.

What truly sets me apart, though, is the relationships I’ve built. After nearly 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of photographing families through so many milestones. From engagements and weddings years ago, to maternity sessions, newborns, birthdays, family portraits, and now even high school senior sessions for children I’ve watched grow up. There’s something incredibly special about being trusted to tell a family’s story over the course of so many years.

At the end of the day, beautiful photographs are important, but I hope my clients remember how they felt just as much as the images they received. Creating a relaxed, personal experience and preserving memories that become family heirlooms is what continues to inspire me every day.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is helping people document their lives, no matter what season they’re in. Life has a way of moving so much faster than we expect, and I’ve experienced that firsthand, not only as a photographer, but as a mom.

One day you’re welcoming a newborn, and before you know it, you’re celebrating a high school graduation, like I just did for my Class of 2026 grad. Those moments feel ordinary while we’re living them, but they quickly become the memories we wish we could revisit.

That’s why I believe photography is such an incredible investment. It’s not just about creating beautiful images for today; it’s about preserving your family’s story for years to come. Whether it’s a growing family, a graduating senior ready for the next chapter, or simply wanting to freeze this season of life exactly as it is, those photographs become part of your legacy.

If my work can help someone hold onto those memories just a little longer, then I know I’ve done my job.
