Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Shields.
Hi Amanda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I mainly got started with photography as a fun hobby- taking self portraits or photos of my friends. That expanded into people asking for senior or family sessions, and then I ended up photographing a friend’s wedding which lead me to fall in love with wedding photography!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey into this career has of course had challenges, but overall, I have been fortunate. I think it takes a combination of determination and passion to carve out your own path in a creative field like photography, and I am grateful to still feel as excited about it as when I was only dreaming it up.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist- I photograph weddings + boudoir, couples, seniors + families. I’m drawn to moody light, organic textures, and imagery that feels nostalgic and honest. My goal is to create photographs you’ll return to year after year- that bring you right back to the moment.
My husband second shoots with me for wedding days which is so fun! We have been working together since we started in 2012 and I love that we can basically share a look and know what the other one needs, ha.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I actually don’t listen to or read much about photography- I am inspired most by nature, light + texture, and romanticizing the mundane- a hot cup of coffee, bare feet in the grass, a morning wander in the garden, little hands reaching for mine, all the little everyday moments that make up our lives.
