Hi Shanel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Charm Skin + Beauty really started from my love for the beauty industry and making people feel good about themselves. I started as a makeup artist in 2015, and that eventually sparked my interest in skincare. I went to esthetics school in 2018, became a licensed esthetician, and opened Charm Skin + Beauty in 2021.
I definitely started small, but through consistency, word of mouth, continuing my education, and really building relationships with my clients, my business has grown tremendously. I’ve gone from serving around 95 clients in my first year to building a clientele of over 400.
Today, I specialize in customized facials and full body waxing, and I’m continuing to grow and expand my business. My ultimate goal is to have a larger storefront, create opportunities for other estheticians, and continue helping people feel confident in their skin.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest struggles in the beginning was building my clientele and trusting that my business would actually grow. There were times when my books weren’t as full as I wanted them to be, and I would question whether I was doing enough or if I was even on the right path.
I also had to learn that being good at what I do and running a business are two completely different things. I had to figure out marketing, finances, pricing, setting boundaries, and how to keep showing up even during the slower seasons.
There were definitely moments of doubt and times when I compared my journey to other people’s, but I’ve learned that growth takes time. Seeing how far Charm Skin + Beauty has come reminds me that staying consistent, believing in myself, and not giving up really does pay off.

At Charm Skin + Beauty, I specialize in customized facials and full body waxing, but for me, it’s about more than just providing a service. I really love creating an experience where my clients can relax, feel comfortable, and leave feeling more confident than when they walked in.
I’m especially known for my facials and creating such a relaxing environment that a lot of my clients actually fall asleep during their service which I take as a compliment! I also take pride in working with different skin types and tones and really listening to what each client needs instead of giving everyone the exact same treatment.
In addition to in studio services, I also offer at-home spa parties, bringing a relaxing and personalized experience directly to you and your guests. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply want to enjoy self-care with friends, at home spa parties are a fun way to relax, connect, and be pampered together.
What I’m most proud of is the clientele and trust I’ve built over the years. Many of my clients have been with me for years, refer their friends and family, and continue to support my business as it grows. I think what sets me apart is that I genuinely care about the person on my table. I want you to have great skin, but I also want Charm Skin + Beauty to be a place where you can disconnect from everything else for a little while and just be taken care of.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
One thing that has worked well for me is putting myself in rooms where I can learn from other entrepreneurs. I’ve participated in business programs, attended networking events, and connected with people who are further along in their journey than I am.
My advice would be to not be afraid to introduce yourself, ask questions, and build genuine relationships. I used to think networking was mainly about promoting your business, but I’ve learned that it’s really about building connections. Some of the best advice, resources, and opportunities I’ve received have come from simply having conversations with other business owners.
I also believe you can have different mentors for different areas of your life and business. You don’t necessarily need one person who has all the answers. Find people who are doing something you admire, be willing to learn, and most importantly, actually apply what you learn.
