Hi Sara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In the heart of Michigan, where the Great Lakes meet vibrant communities, my journey as an entrepreneur began in the most unexpected way. For nearly a decade, I navigated the winding paths of the small business world, searching for my niche. My experiences ranged from ambitious projects that didn’t quite take off to moments of self-discovery that shaped my vision. Yet, nothing could have prepared me for the turning point that came in June 2024.

Just after welcoming my third child into the world, I faced an unexpected challenge: termination from my well paying managerial position. It felt like the ground had shifted beneath me during one of the toughest summers of my life. However, in that moment of uncertainty, I experienced a profound “aha” moment. I realized that this was my opportunity to redefine my future and pursue my true passions.

With renewed determination, I made the decision to return to school to earn my Associate’s degree in Business Administration. This educational journey is not just about the degree; it represents my commitment to developing the skills needed to thrive in the business world and to equip myself for the challenges ahead.

In tandem with my studies and finding myself in the position of a stay at home mom, I took a bold step and opened an on-demand print shop, Moon Valley Prints, that focuses on celebrating Michigan life and outdoor living. My designs reflect the beauty and spirit of our state, connecting with residents and visitors alike. This venture is not just a business for me; it’s a way to share my love for Michigan and its outdoor culture with the world.

But my aspirations don’t stop there. I am proud to promote my husband’s professional bass fishing endeavors. The profits from my print shop will help fund his fishing tournaments, allowing us to build a life that intertwines our passions. We dream of creating engaging content through a TikTok and YouTube channel dedicated to Michigan fishing, where we can share tutorials and experiences that resonate with fellow fishing and outdoor enthusiasts. One day we also hope to have our own little homestead out in the wilderness of Michigan where we can live at peace with our family in nature.

In addition to our personal goals, we are deeply committed to giving back to our community. We plan to host fishing camps for young children eager to learn the art of fishing. It’s vital to us that we inspire the next generation to connect with nature and develop a love for the outdoors that lasts a lifetime.

As I reflect on my journey, I recognize that every setback has led me to this moment of clarity and purpose. My dreams and aspirations extend beyond this year, but I am focused on laying a strong foundation for my family, my business, and our community. With a heart full of hope and a vision for the future, I invite you to join me on this exciting adventure as I embrace the challenges of entrepreneurship and the beauty of Michigan life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to where I am today has been anything but easy, marked by numerous struggles that tested my resilience and determination. As I searched for my niche in the small business world, I faced significant setbacks, including the fallout from the pandemic that forced several of my promising ideas to the sidelines. With limited funds to sustain inventory and supply my ventures, each setback felt like a weight on my shoulders. The summer of 2024 brought an unexpected crisis as my husband battled a severe respiratory infection that nearly took his life, all while I was adjusting to life as a new mother in my late 30s. Juggling the demands of bringing a baby into the world alongside the pressure of making ends meet as a one-income family was overwhelming. Yet, these challenges fueled my desire to not only survive but to thrive, pushing me to seize the opportunity to create a business that reflects my passions and provides for my family.

I run an on-demand printing business that specializes in creating unique products that celebrate the beauty of Michigan and the joys of outdoor living. Our designs feature a fun and quirky twist, appealing to those who appreciate a lighthearted take on the outdoor lifestyle. From apparel and accessories to home decor, each item reflects the vibrant spirit of Michigan and its natural wonders.

I am most proud of my adversity to overcome obstacles in my life and to keep pushing forward no matter what and to try to make myself a better person. I’m also proud of my children, for always being there for their family and friends and my husband for being an amazing human being.

What sets my business apart is the unique blend of Michigan-centric themes and the playful, quirky designs that embody the spirit of outdoor living. While many printing businesses focus on generic designs, I strive to infuse a sense of fun and personality into each product. Furthermore, my commitment to promoting my husband’s fishing career adds a personal touch that many customers appreciate. I aim to create a community around our shared passions, fostering connections not just through products but through shared experiences and stories.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
To never give up. You have to keep trying and keep changing and evolving.
