Today, we’d like to introduce you to Robert Q. Jackson.
Hi Robert, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started acting at a young age, about 5 or 6 years old, in elementary school. I was hooked from day one.
Doing stage plays was so much fun. I then made a few small, short films here and there. But then I moved away from it as I got older.
However, I never stopped loving acting. I didn’t get back into acting until a lot later. I had gotten out of the Air Force 12 years ago and moved back home to Detroit. I was asked by a good friend to be a part of a monologue show. It was great. I had found that love again. From there, there was a slow and steady incoming of roles.
I did a few stage plays and built great relationships with directors, producers, and writers. I was finally given my first lead role in “OUT OF BOUNDS.” It went really well, and a lot of people got to see my full range. I picked up a few more great roles from there. After that, things slowed down a bit. This was because a lot of people were transitioning to film.
The great thing was the relationships I built with them helped put me in a position to be a part of all of the upcoming productions. I really got things going in 2021. Since then, I have filmed over 34 movies and productions, all in about 3 1/2 years.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, it has. Now, that doesn’t mean I haven’t had any down days. But it’s been fun and great along this journey. The reason is that I love acting. It’s never been, and will never be, about fame, popularity, or awards. It’s just purely a passion for being a part of someone’s vision and bringing those characters to life.
I have been to so many auditions. I have been turned down sometimes. I have gotten the role, done a table read, and been weeks from filming, and have gotten replaced with someone else. I don’t get upset about those things. It’s a part of this industry. I have learned that sometimes it’s not that you are not a great actor, it’s just a different “look” or “chemistry” producers are looking for.
I take it all in stride and remain positive about all the opportunities. I also make sure to remain professional and grateful. This keeps me focused on what is important. It also strengthens my reputation within the acting community.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
Currently, I have 3 businesses I’m running and working on a few more. I have my transportation company, RISE LUXURY TRANSPORTATION, which is for clients who need to get around when they need private transportation to events or locations.
I also have my consulting company, which is used to help businesses run smoother, find funding, manage day-to-day operations, and expand at efficient rates. I have also recently started my own production company, GET YOUR POPCORN READY PRODUCTIONS, aka GYPR PRODS. Being in the acting world has given me insight into how things work. I want to make my own movies from my own stories now.
I have had wonderful relationships with so many people in this industry over the past 10 years. I have been watching and learning so much. It’s time for me to bring the people who believe in me together to make some amazing movies! I’m also working for a few other companies I have been wanting to start up.
But I’m going to wait to reveal it later this year.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love Detroit! It is really unique and special. There is no place like here. I love our hustle and grind. I love our “can do” attitude. This is why I love the Detroit Lions motto of “GRIT”; that defines us so much. I love the food here. We have some amazing places to eat.
They are hidden in spots, but once you find them, you will be hooked. Detroit has a lot of history and art. The things that made this city are often unknown and sometimes overlooked. But this city has plenty to be proud of. We have some of the richest cultures in the US. As for what I don’t like, nothing. I know I could say a few things, but I won’t.
Because my city has had enough of bad displays. We have been down, way down, for a while. I’m going to only focus on the positive changes we have made. I’m proud to be from a city that doesn’t quit. A city that most gave up on, but we stood strong and did what was needed to be better.
I’m excited to see what is to come. There is a lot of development going on. The NFL draft was just here. We have the F1 races here. I’m glad people are seeing how great Detroit is.
