Conversations with Riya Challa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Riya Challa.

Hi Riya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I joined Northville HOSA as a freshman, and it has been an incredible journey ever since. This organization has provided me with the opportunity to connect with members from various chapters, experience a dynamic competitive environment, and enjoy countless memorable moments. I’ve had the privilege of serving as Treasurer for the past two years and recently stepped into the role of Co-President. I’m excited to continue contributing to our chapter’s growth and to help lead Northville HOSA to its fullest potential!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When it comes to competition, HOSA is incredibly rigorous, with hundreds of dedicated members across chapters spending countless hours preparing for their events—making it especially challenging to place. Despite that, both myself and our members consistently put our best foot forward, giving 100% effort in preparing for our various medical competitions. From a management standpoint, running Northville HOSA—entirely student-led—can be demanding, especially when balancing leadership responsibilities with academic workloads. However, our board collaborates seamlessly, and that strong teamwork has been key to ensuring a successful year for our chapter!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my previous role as Treasurer, I was responsible for budgeting major conferences, coordinating payments, and processing checks, among other financial tasks. Now, as Co-President, my responsibilities have expanded to overseeing overall chapter operations, leading meetings, and mentoring our underclassmen board members to prepare them for future leadership roles.
