Conversations with Noella Nwosu-Amene

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noella Nwosu-Amene

Hi Noella, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Nigeria, and from a young age, I had a passion for creativity. I remember being just four years old, playing with my mom’s makeup; it was in those moments that I realized my dream of becoming a makeup artist. Growing up in a Nigerian household, I was surrounded by a rich culture that celebrated beauty, but I also faced the realities of traditional expectations.

In my community, career paths like law or medicine were highly revered, and pursuing anything outside of those fields often led to skepticism and a lack of respect. As I navigated through school, I felt the pressure to conform to these norms, but my heart was always drawn to artistry. My first client ever at 15 years old in my parents guest bathroom, helped me get to where I am today.

Despite the challenges, I decided to follow my passion. I sought out opportunities to learn and grow in the beauty industry, honing my skills and building my portfolio. Through determination and perseverance, I began to gain recognition for my work. I started with small gigs, gradually working my way up to larger projects and collaborations.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Becoming a makeup artist has certainly not been a smooth road. One of the biggest struggles I faced was the initial skepticism from family and friends. Many couldn’t understand why I would want to pursue a career in an industry that they perceived as less stable or prestigious compared to medicine. There were moments when I felt isolated in my choice, especially during family gatherings where discussions revolved around medical school and successful practices.

Financially, starting my own business was another hurdle. I had to learn how to manage finances, invest in quality products, and market myself effectively—all while supporting myself. There were times when I worried about making ends meet, especially in the early stages when clients were few and far between. I had to be resourceful, often working multiple jobs to fund my business and gain experience.

Additionally, the competitive nature of the beauty industry posed its challenges. Establishing a name for myself required relentless effort, long hours, and a willingness to learn continuously. I faced rejection and setbacks, but each obstacle taught me resilience and determination.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a professional makeup artist specializing in all things glam, with a keen focus on professional bridal artistry. Over the years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with well-known brands like Sephora, Morphe, and Clinique, which has helped me refine my skills and expand my portfolio.

One of my proudest achievements has been working with notable clientele, including the talented singer and songwriter Yemi Alade, as well as reality TV stars Johnni Blaze and Treasure P from LHHATL. Each of these experiences has allowed me to showcase my artistry in exciting and unique ways, and it’s been rewarding to contribute to their stunning looks for various events.

What truly sets me apart from others in the industry is my commitment to exceptional customer service and my attentiveness to each client’s individual needs. I believe that makeup is not just about applying products; it’s about enhancing the beauty that God gave you and making each person feel truly confident and radiant. I take the time to listen to my clients, understand their vision, and work collaboratively to create a look that reflects their personality and enhances their natural beauty.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One surprising aspect that most people who know me or my work might not be aware of is my passion for music. I’m a music enthusiast and actually sang classical music in high school as part of the varsity choir. Those experiences not only nurtured my love for music but also taught me about performance and artistry in a different way.

Additionally, I’m a mom! Balancing motherhood with my career as a makeup artist adds another layer to my life, and it inspires me to bring creativity and passion into everything I do. My love for music and my role as a mother influence my work, reminding me of the importance of joy, expression, and connection in both art and life. It’s this blend of experiences that shapes my unique approach to makeup artistry and the way I connect with my clients.
