Today we’d like to introduce you to Mycha Garrett.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
From the time I was a little girl, fashion captured my imagination. I used to sit with my sketchbook, dreaming up designs for a clothing line I called “Paradise,” filling the pages with outfits covered in tiny dice and stars. But when it came time to choose a path, I didn’t follow that dream. I chose the safer, more “socially acceptable” route by earning my degree from an HBCU, getting a steady job, and eventually working in retail.
Even though I loved clothes, my relationship with myself wasn’t always healthy. I struggled with low self-esteem and constantly felt the pressure to look more like what society said was beautiful. For years, I dressed to fit in rather than to reflect who I really was. Everything shifted in 2015 when God completely changed my life. He delivered me from that identity crisis and filled me with the gift of Holy Ghost. For the first time, I saw my worth through His eyes. Two years later, I stepped out in faith and created my first T-shirt line, Starve the Flesh, Feed the Spirit. My “Not of This World” design became the most popular, and it confirmed for me that fashion was more than just fabric..it was a form of ministry.
While working for The Salvation Army, I discovered a whole new world through thrift. What started as just another retail job grew into years of leadership experience in merchandising, store management, and eventually administration. I saw firsthand how secondhand pieces could be transformed into chic, one-of-a-kind looks. I even began creating content for the organization, blending my eye for style with marketing and storytelling. I was climbing the ladder, but I knew deep down God was preparing me for something greater.
That “something greater” became By His Spirit Styling Company in 2022. It started with a simple vision: to help women, especially Black Christian women like me;rediscover confidence and style without compromising their values or their budgets. Because I know what it feels like to stand in front of your closet and still feel like nothing fits who God is calling you to be. I know what it feels like to question your worth and beauty. And I also know the freedom that comes when you finally see yourself the way God sees you .. fearfully and wonderfully made.
Through personal styling, closet remixes, curated thrifted style boxes, and virtual sessions, I’ve had the honor of walking women through that transformation. But this work is not just about clothes…it’s about confidence, healing, and finding your true identity in Christ. That’s why we’re expanding into confidence-building and personal styling workshops. These gatherings will give women the tools to dress for their body type and lifestyle, while also doing the inner work of building self-esteem and faith.
And the vision doesn’t stop there. By His Spirit Styling Company will be growing into Mobile Resale Boutique —a thrift store on wheels designed with a boutique aesthetic. This mobile space will bring modest, chic, and affordable clothing directly into communities. It will also double as a place for styling sessions and youth mentorship, combining my background in retail leadership with my calling to serve and minister through fashion.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey as an entrepreneur hasn’t been without challenges. In 2023, I was laid off from my job, which forced me to face the reality of building a business without the security of a steady paycheck. On top of that, I’ve wrestled with the lack of funding to move my vision forward as quickly as I hoped. But honestly, some of the hardest struggles weren’t external..they were internal. Procrastination, fear, and at times a lack of faith in using what God had already placed in my hands held me back. Still, each setback became a lesson, pushing me to trust God more deeply and reminding me that small steps of obedience can create big impact.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a stay-at-home mom, minister, and personal stylist specializing in modest, thrifted fashion. I’m known for turning thrifted finds into elevated looks and for creating faith-filled content that blends style with encouragement.
What I’m most proud of is merging ministry with fashion—helping women see their beauty inside and out. What sets me apart is that I don’t just style clothes; I build confidence, create community, and show that modesty and style can go hand in hand.
What matters most to you? Why?
My faith in Jesus and my family matters to me most. God is the one who has turned my mess (living a life of sin) into a masterpiece (being a born again believer). HE is the one who gives me wisdom, strength, insight, and grace to serve his people through ministry in my home, the church and through my fashion business. Without God I am nothing and I can do nothing . I love him with my words, life and actions. He is the one who died and rose again for me. My family matters to me most specifically my husband because he supports me spiritually, mentally, emotionally and financially without and reservations , grudges, or complaints. My husband is my biggest fan. I appreciate him for being a great friend and confidante. My daughter matters to me most because I’m showing her even at this young tender age of 18months that she can do ALL THINGS through Christ .
