Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Plantenga
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello! The Point Community Center was built in 2008 as a way for Centerpoint Church to serve our community and create a bridge to hopefully lead them to a Christ centered life. We focus on physical, mental, and spiritual health. We serve seniors, people with disabilities, families and communities in the Kalamazoo area. Our passion is to develop a partnership with Kalamazoo in any way that produces “good fruit”
One example would be our attempt to get Kalamazoo Metro and Silver Sneakers to create a system where we pick up seniors in the local area and bring them to classes at our center for free.
We are also looking into developing duplex housing for adults with disabilities and my prayer is that we develop a day program that has speed/agility coaches, basketball/pickleball trainers, personal trainers, and so much more! The sky is the limit! We want to create an environment where people with disabilities are accepted and just “one of the gang” ❤️
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a super smooth road so far, but it has only been 90 days since I took over. We have a vision, and a lot of great things will be happening! We just need to learn patience.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am known for being an adult with a disability that has grinded to get this far and will continue to grind for the Lord till the day I die.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair. Gods grace is for all!
