Hi Majorie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My esoteric business, The Punk Priestess, began in 2018. I was working as a fashion designer in New York City and was also a singer in a punk rock band. The Punk Priestess name developed as a combination of one of my favorite tarot cards, The High Priestess and my love of punk rock music and culture. Punk is all about being a nonconformist and creating an authentic place in the world for yourself. Of course, it can go much deeper than this, but punk has always been an umbrella term for me to use to express myself, because I have never been one to fit into the status quo. As a multi-talented person with many interest in this corporate left-brained world, I never quite fit into societies traditional mode of doing things or wanting the same lifestyle as my peers. The struggle of never fitting into the box, ended up being my strength as a business owner. The Punk Priestess is a combination of many different spiritual and creative combinations in the cosmic metaphysical realm. This includes: tarot, astrology, lenormand, Reiki, and mediumship services as well as selling a variety of apothecary items, teaching classes and freelance writing. Once I had a name to define what I do, I had a business.

The path for growing my business at a full-time capacity, took many years to develop. During the first few years of the Punk Priestess, it was a juggling act, for I was working full-time in the fashion industry as well an active member of my band. Then Covid hit and it was honestly a blessing in disguise for my business. I was laid off from my fashion job due to the pandemic and my band took a hiatus. It would be six months before I was employed again in the fashion industry, but before that time, I self-published an e-book and my business grew immensely. Seeing the Punk Priestess grow and impact so many communities and provide guidance and support to others during the most uncertain time in recent US history, was when I really started to see the expansion my business could take. It would not be until 2022, when I was able to leave the fashion industry behind for good, move out of NYC back to my hometown of Detroit, Michigan and take my business full time. Now leading up to today, I spend my weeks reading clients, teaching classes, writing for various publications as well my Substack and participate in many community holistic and wellness ventures. It has not been an easy journey by any means to get to this place with my business, but I am blessed that I have created something that I love to do everyday and that gives back to holistic spiritual communities.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Entrepreneurship is never an easy road, which is why many seldom take it. You have to really hold yourself accountable to see your plans through, for you have no overlord, you are your own boss. You really have to know your strengths and weaknesses and have a lot of grace with yourself on your journey. Being financially savvy is something that takes time to develop. Some months are better than others and there is a tremendous amount of stress involved when not having a consistent salary, but I would not trade my freedom and autonomy for the corporate grind again. Money will come and go, but you and your time in this life is something you can never get back.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an intuitive tarot reader, astrologer, medium and Reiki practitioner. The type of astrology I specialize in is Evolutionary Astrology and Psychological Astrology. Also, part of my esoteric practice is reading Lenormand and many different forms of mediumship. What’s sets me a part from others in my field, is my two decades of experience of studying, teaching and consulting as an astrologer. I also have a very unique tarot practice I have cultivated over the past decade, that combines my knowledge of astrology and I incorporate oracle cards among a variety of different decks. My practice is unique, fun, creative and insightful. I try to give a very well-rounded experience to my clients to provide the best counsel possible.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Having great consistency, time management and organization skills are facets of running a successful business, and I feel these attributes align with my achievements. However, being creative, personable and having decades of experience in my field is what really drives my business to its greatest heights.
