Today we’d like to introduce you to Litta Monea.

Litta Monea

Hi Litta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m the founder and creative behind Note to Self, a mental wellness brand centered on self-mastery, emotional intelligence, and intentional growth. I earned my psychology degree from Oakland University, and I use both my education and lived experience to build tools, experiences, and spaces that push people to heal with purpose and move with clarity. Note to Self isn’t just a journal — it’s a movement grounded in accountability, reflection, and choosing yourself at every level.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building Note to Self hasn’t been easy. One of the biggest challenges has been growing a mental wellness brand while healing in real time myself — learning how to show up as both the founder and a human being. I’ve faced financial pressure, burnout, self-doubt, and the challenge of being taken seriously in a world that often underestimates young Black women in business and mental health spaces. I’ve also had to navigate building community without overextending myself emotionally. But every obstacle sharpened my discipline, clarified my purpose, and taught me how to lead with boundaries, vision, and integrity.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work lives at the intersection of student success, mental health, and access to higher education. I specialize in college advising, student development, and building systems of support that help students move from uncertainty to confidence. I’m known for combining data-driven advising with deep relational work—really listening, meeting students where they are, and holding them to high, realistic standards.

I’m most proud of the impact I’ve made at Taylor High School through AdviseMI, where I supported over 200 students through the college application process, conducted more than 400 one-on-one advising sessions, and helped my first graduating class secure nearly $3 million in scholarships. What sets me apart is my ability to blend my psychology background, lived experience as a first-generation college graduate, and my role in higher education to build genuine trust with students while also pushing them toward measurable outcomes. I don’t just help students apply to college—I help them believe they belong there.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I think i’m a pretty open book, but I don’t think people truly understand or know that I’m overly sensitive. I will cry over anything small if it inconveniences me.
