Hi Lay’na , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got started professionally in 2009 when my husband heard me in the shower singing it was also then when my husband decided to become my manager. Then when the COVID locked down came about I learned a new skill of creating custom scented candles.Through prayer and perseverance I am now a 16x international award-winning & 5x history making r&b soul artist born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I have released 2 solo albums in my career which has helped me when awards from Las Vegas, Florida, Atlanta, Tennessee, Australia, United Kingdom & Europe. On November 23rd, 2018 I performed my original music for the Detroit Pistons inside of LCA during a pre game performance. Because of this performance I became the 1st African American Independent music artist to perform original music for the Detroit Pistons inside of the Little Caesars Arena downtown Detroit, MI. Then on April 12-30, 2019 I was awarded an exhibit inside of the Charles H Wright Museum, because of my exhibit I was awarded this exhibit placed me the only music artist alive to an exhibit inside of any African American Museum. FYI African American Museums only honor the dead by the Grace of God I’m not dead so yes I am the only music artist on Earth to have an exhibit inside of any African American Museum.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh no its never been a smooth road as a independent music artist, to this day I am dealing with people not wanting to respect me a independent music artist. Even with all my accolades some people think I am supposed to present my artistry for free, people don’t realize the Lay’na Michelle R’n’B Empress LLC brand is my trademark business. This is my way I make my living.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in entertainment, I am singer songwriter for listening pleasure, I create candles to bring pleasure to your sight & smelling senses. I aim to be a positive conversation pieces through all ages. I believe my job is to bring everyone together in a positive light. I am proud of building a brand to stay as strong as it has for as long as my brand has. I am not going to accept no for an answer and I don’t sit nor wait for someone to give me there approval. I don’t wait for a door to open, God gives me the keys to walk me through doors to enhance my brand plus career.

What makes you happy?
The fact that I have a strong unbreakable faith in the Lord, the fact that I know that God will never leave me to fend for myself. God gives me the vision and the strength to keep striving to be the best in everything I do in my brand.
