Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristy Scholz

Hi Kristy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started esthetician school in 2003 after going to traditional college to become a teacher. Traditional school wasn’t for me I just wasn’t sure what I wanted to do and so I stated college hoping it would just magically come to me. After years without a degree I sat down and ask myself the serious question. What did I really want to do with my life. I really loved skin care and make so I looked online to see what I could do with that and I found a beauty school that offered esthetics. I called and took a tour immediately. I went through school and knew immediately that it was for me! After graduating my husband and I were blessed with identical twin girls that took up all my time. When they were 2 I started a job at a med spa and worked there from 2005-2011. They started out doing esthetics then switched to weight loss so I wasn’t doing what I originally set out to do. I was also doing massage under my esthetic license and Michigan was beginning to change their laws about massage and licenses so in 2014 I went back to school for massage. I really excelled in school for massage and found I really had a passion for it. When I graduated I got a job at a high end spa and worked there happily until the pandemic hit in 2020. The spa closed for 6 months and when they brought us back they cut our pay in half and i knew I couldn’t stay there. I then went and worked for a friend and it was the right fit for me. A friend and former co worker approached me about doing a walk through at Cosmo Salon Studios. I had no idea what this was. She explained to me that these salon studios you get to run your own business and they do the build out for you. You just pay a weekly rent and they were offering 4 weeks free.

While on the tour I got so excited it just seemed to right. I had plenty of experience and I knew I could do this and make it work. I looked at my friend at the end of the tour and said “I wanna do this. With or without you. What do you want to do?” She was more hesitant at first but we talked it thought and decided to take the leap. We share the room 50/50 and we run our own businesses separately. We share the cost of all the machines. That way we are able to afford higher end facial services. I had never in my life felt so good about such a hard decision, don’t get me wrong I was still nervous there are so many factors and hurtles in opening your own place but I was excited. I had found a facial treatment called Procell Microchanneling months before I ever thought I would open my own place. I was looking for a certain mask on the internet and stumbled upon this. I went to a webinar and thought to myself “wow this would be an amazing non invasive treatment to add to my facial menu but I’ll never be in a position to offer something like this..

I never got that treatment out of my mind and now that I was opening my own business I could do it. So I approached my friend about Procell and she did the webinar like I did all those months prior and she was blown away. And agreed that we should bring it on. The rep for Procell set up an open house for us we invited our clients to get a Procell facial treatment for half off and we then offered packages after that. I had an amazing turn out and it was such a confidence boosters that so many people showed up to support me and my business adventure. My first year and the years since then have been the best of my life. My clients followed me and I’ve gained even more while being here. Today I have a full schedule of massage and facial clients. I’m so happy that I am living the life of my dreams. I get to pick out the products and treatments I do. Since opening I’ve brought on lots of new and exciting treatments. Like CryoFacials that is lifting and tightening and Korean skin care that I found at the Vegas aesthetics conference that I attended with 2 of my esthetician friends this past year. At the end of September I’m going to Wisconsin to train with the Esti Sisters in 3 different Korean facials. I’m so excited for this! I love offering my clients the newest and best working facials!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. But I feel like every thing that I’ve done has prepared me for having my own business. I was an office manager for a while and that definitely has helped me. The other spas I worked at help me discover who I was as a massage therapist and esthetician. If it wasn’t for the pandemic pushing me out of the spa I was at I’m not sure where I’d be.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I really strive to give the best massage. People know that when they come to me that I will listen to them about the pain or stress they may be having. Also I like to stay up on the best techniques and modalities. My most popular massage is the Himalayan Salt stone massage. It’s so relaxing and therapeutic. Im most proud of the relationships that I’ve built. I have so many clients that are also friends.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
