Conversations with Kitsu Fondue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kitsu Fondue.

Hi Kitsu, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always wanted to be onstage, to express my art and help others find the courage to do the same. Honestly, the longest goal was to be a musician (that is still in the works), to travel the country and the world. It was only in 2015 when I witnessed burlesque for the first time, and fell in love instantly. I thought, “that’s what I want to do.” When I discovered that the performer was also an instructor, I immediately signed up, and started classes within 2-3 weeks. In 2019, I debuted at Ypsi Pride as a solo performer, and have been continuing to grow since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were the common obstacles: having the right stage name, building original acts, finding gigs, networking, etc. I initially wanted to do strictly nerdleque (cosplay) acts, but realized I was stifling my creativity as I forced myself to stick to one avenue. Branching out has definitely helped me further challenge myself as a performance artist.

When I became a co-producer of Deep Dive, new obstacles arose: managing time, booking acts, finding performers, finances, contacting venues; the list goes on. I also had to grow thick skin, learn to navigate miscommunication and unnecessary competition.

Despite the trials, there are several triumphs. I think I’ve come out a stronger performer (and person) from everything thus far.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a mixed media artist with a focus on fiber art. I am interested in transitions, ethereal planes, and liminal spaces. I plan to use photography to explore these motifs, hopefully by end of this year. Mythology and fantasy are a huge inspiration for what I do!

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Reaching out via social media or email is great! I would love to collaborate and create something incredible! Support by coming out to shows and bringing friends!
