Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyra Morris.
Hi Keyra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Keyra Denise Morris from East Detroit, Michigan. The first 6 years of my life I traveled east and west in the Homes For Black Children foster care system. The first three years of my life I was moved from home to home because of the lack of care, abuse and such from foster families. When I was three years old, I got fostered by the Morris family. I was not the easiest child to care for but Morris’s accepted the challenge and officially adopted me at the age of 6. The same day of my adoption I was also asked about a name and everyone says that I named myself Keyra. THAT’S RIGHT, I NAMED MYSELF!
Growing up in a disciplined environment was hard for me but my parents and siblings did not give up. My parents taught us that doing for self and several streams of income are very important. They got me into sports and modeling. At the age of 10 I started casting for Scarlett Linen and became their featured model until my high graduation. Although I had a great love for modeling, I also had a great love for basketball. At the time I didn’t want to balance both so I took the full-ride basketball scholarship to State Fair Community College in Missouri. In 2011, after a basketball injury and car accident I gave up on life. I stopped pursuing my goals and played with my life. It wasn’t until I decided to gain control over my mental health that I realized I needed to grow up and get back to it. I took counseling, read books and even completed my Duel Associates at Wayne County Community College District.
Now, I hold 3 degrees, my most recent Bachelor with Distinction in Organizational Management. I am a teacher for HarperWoods Schools and I am growing my empire as an entrepreneur. While educating our youth, I’ve taken on managing Scrkilla The Vet, TheRealAce, Tokyo Barbie, Vdoealmighty, and more in their independent music, movie and modeling careers. My latest project is for the upcoming International fashion shows in Chicago. As one of the casting producers and coaches, we will be taking 25 of Michigan finest models to The 2nd Annual Modest Fashion Show Chicago to Paris.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The best part about success and growth is the road is never a smooth one.
As a teacher in a pandemic, I see myself wondering what happened to our government in the midst of it all. Mading excuses of why things are the way they are is the new norm. As an entrepreneur I experience the same things working with distribution sites, booking artists for a fair price and even marketing myself without so many discounts. I
will be launching a new business, The Agency, a team of entrepreneurs coming together under one narrative while still creating our own.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets me apart from others is my passion. The work I put in is unmatched. I specialize in crisis management and organization which allows me to take on multiple things at one time and still have a high success rate. A lot of my friends call me “The Scientist” because I’m always reading, researching, and creating new ways for everyone to come up and stay successful.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My peace and knowledge are most important to me because that allows me to keep growing and succeeding.
