Conversations with Kelly Lyczkowski

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Lyczkowski. 

Hi Kelly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started working in our local flower shop when I was 15, I learned floral design, I loved designing the windows and the retail displays. I went to Michigan State and received my degrees in Floriculture, Retail Marketing, and Psychology. The psychology comes in handy when working with nervous brides and helped with understanding how the average consumer thinks. I worked as a florist and began doing retail buying, and absolutely loved the challenge of buying products that made people happy. After working for 15 years in the industry I took time out to raise my daughters. I went back to work as a retail buyer for other businesses and quickly realized that I wanted to own my own store. After looking at different cities and storefronts, in July of 2018, we found our location in Howell. In 3 short months, we opened on Howell’s Witches Night, and I knew immediately my vision was going to be realized. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
We had been in business for 15 short months when the pandemic occurred. We tried to accommodate our customers after the shutdown, with curb side pickup and a quickly developed online market. As soon as we were able, we opened at different levels of customer capacity and were able to pivot in how we purchased and sold our products. 

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work at making sure we carry products for everyone. I have 32 years of floral design experience and my love of realistic-looking permanent botanicals sets my store apart from others. I am very proud of my custom work and our reputation for top-of-the-line product.
