Today we’d like to introduce you to Keith Lenart.
Hi Keith, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I did my first comedy open mic in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, almost 30 years ago…and had a blast…I just kept doing lots of open mics, and then came some paying gigs… Over time got more and more paying shows. I have been so blessed to do show all across America and in Canada…also show in Japan for the us marine bases and in the middle east for army bases… I just did show in Edinburgh, Scotland, last year at the Fringe Festival, which is one of the biggest entertainment festivals in the world, with over 3,000 shows going on over one month.
Keith Lenart is an internationally touring comedian, working clubs across the U.S. and shows overseas for the troops. A regular at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, Keith also enjoys entertaining at corporate events and private parties. His television and film appearances include Last Comic Standing, NBC’s So You Think You’re Funny, American Wedding, and Vamps with Sigourney Weaver and Richard Lewis. He has worked with comedy legends such as Bobcat Goldthwait, Pauly Shore, Jim Gaffigan, Caroline Rhea, Judy Tenuta, and more.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a fairly smooth road…early on, I did do improv shows with an improv group and was lucky enough to place in the final round for second city in Detroit, and two the guys I did improv made the final cast which is only about a dozen people. It was heartbreaking not to get in, but I was so proud of how far I got with over 600 people auditioning.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a standup comedian. I am known for putting on a great show filled with lots of laughs. I am so proud to have done shows for the us military overseas and doing shows after 9/11 in New York when people really need to laugh…plus doing shows after covid…people really needed some laughs then. Plus, so many shows for seniors… just making people laugh for a while and help facilitate them forgetting about their problems for just a while.
What were you like growing up?
I always made people laugh… I also had an interest in business which has helped me with my comedy career. I did not mention it, but when I was 20 years old, I opened a new and used record store in the 1980s with only 2,000 dollars in within 10 years was doing over a million dollars in sales…what a blast it was… plus being able to go to our annual music convention and meeting so many music legends…such as Tony Bennet, Issac hayes, Paula Abdul, David Hasselhoff, Faith Hill, Huey Lewis, Tori Amos, Weird Al Yankovich, Joan Jett, Garth Brooks and so many more…In my store, we had in-store appearances to by Kid Rock when he was just getting big.
