Conversations with Keana Karim

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keana Karim.

Hi Keana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Keana Karim, I’m a multi-talented woman born and raised in the city of Detroit. I’m a model, photographer, designer, and fashion design Instructor for children. In the fashion community, I go by the name “Honeyy Bloom” which is not only a name but a brand that strives to teach others to become a better version of themselves.

My journey started 10 years ago with modeling and I’m never looking back. It was at that age I knew I loved Fashion. As a teenager, my very first runway show was at the age of 17 years old, and ever since then, I’ve been hooked. The adrenaline and boost of confidence you get while walking down the runway will never get old. Even when I’m old and grey you’ll still see me engaged within the fashion community whether I’m modeling, designing, or doing photography. Because they’re all a form of art and self-expression.

I made a life-long commitment to be fashionable and express myself creatively. Whether I’m on the runway, behind the camera, or the woman behind the designs.

Honestly, I never imagined I’d be doing the things I’m capable of now because I’m self-taught which goes to show that anything you put your mind to is possible.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. However, failure is necessary for success. When I first started modeling, I attended a lot of training and seminars to become a well-rounded model with a strong walk. I invested in myself because I believed in myself. Then I directed my focus to photography and fashion design which requires a lot of practice and studying. I’m still evolving and growing so my best has yet to come.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an educator for Detroit Public Schools and an after-school Fashion Design Instructor. I Love my job because I have the opportunity to teach the future. As well as teach students fashion design which is a lost skill due to fast fashion.

I’m proud and blessed that I’ve been given opportunities that I never imagined. I get to teach and see students’ skills grow. What sets me apart from others is that I work hard for the things I dream to be a reality and you should too.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
My drive and passion in life has been important to my success. Without it, I would’ve easily given up on my dreams. However, Life is a journey, and were meant to live happily and bloom in the midst of adversities.
