Conversations with Kate Mann

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kate Mann.

Kate, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a behavioral health and weight loss coach, I’ve helped hundreds of women achieve lasting change in their lifestyles by simply focusing on daily habits. I especially have a passion for helping women who struggle with their mental health, because I know firsthand how hard it can be to stick to a routine when dealing with conditions like anxiety or depression.

This is what ultimately held me back.

After my own 12-year-long weight-loss journey, I never want anyone to have to go through the struggles and confusion I faced. That’s why I created LRD Academy—to share everything I wish I’d known with my students and give them all the resources and teachings they need to be successful.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was overweight for the majority of my life. I struggled with anxiety symptoms starting in childhood, and without realizing it, used food to self-soothe. This is how I learned to associate food with comfort, relief, and reward. It was these associations that drove my eating and lifestyle habits all the way into early adulthood, and I quickly began to spiral.

When I finally hit my lowest point, at just 19 years old, I was clinically obese, pre-diabetic, always anxious, and watching my life spiral out of control. Stress eating and self-sabotaging behaviors kept me stuck in a vicious, unhealthy cycle. I didn’t recognize myself in the mirror or in pictures anymore. I carried so much guilt, pain and shame—always thinking “I should be able to fix this on my own, what is wrong with me?”

This went on for so long. I wanted the quickest path with the least amount of resistance.⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣I wasn’t focused on sustainable habits. I just wanted to look like “all the other girls” who seemed to fit in.

⁣⁣⁣I had zero self-accountability and self-discipline skills at the time. If I had woken up the next day magically transformed and 50lbs lighter, I would have never known how to maintain it. ⁣⁣⁣

I knew I wanted to be healthy and confident, but I was stuck in a cycle of intermittent success. I’d lose some weight and then just as quickly, I’d gain it back.

⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣I thought I was destined to be the “bigger girl.” ⁣⁣⁣

It wasn’t until I decided the pain of staying stuck was greater than the pain of the change. I realized that I had to start thinking, speaking, and acting like the person I wanted to become if I wanted to start feeling like her.⁣⁣⁣ I finally surrendered to auditing my habits and secured accountability. I took the time and space necessary to educate myself on nutrition, exercise, and behavior change.

While my anxiety symptoms may never fully go away, I proved to myself that by following an intentional list of daily self-care rituals, I could still maintain a consistent wellness routine and healthy weight. That was a life-changing realization for me. For the first time, I felt confident that I truly had control over my health and wellness.

Finally, things started clicking into gear, and through a complete lifestyle transformation, I was able to lose and keep off 80lbs. I’m now a certified specialist in behavior change, plant-based nutrition, exercise science, and women’s weight loss—and I’m living out my dream of helping women transform their lives.

While many of my students embrace the hope of change, most are a little hesitant in the beginning because they feel they’ve “tried everything” and nothing seems to stick. It’s understandable—it takes a lot of effort to stop living within our comfort zone and start something that feels challenging or unknown (even when we know the long-term benefits).

The missing link with creating healthy habits is the emphasis on behavior change.

Diet culture conditions us to focus on short-term results.⁣⁣⁣

⁣⁣⁣But my mission is to teach women how to start focusing on long-term sustainability⁣⁣.

Specifically, I use behavior-changing techniques to teach women how to create a foundation of self-discipline that keeps them consistent, even on the hard days. We usually resist change because we perceive a lack of knowledge, ability, motivation, or simply the willingness to admit we need to. Wherever you fall in this spectrum, my goal is to help you identify your roadblocks, remove the barriers, and provide you with the tools necessary to create lasting change.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
After going through my journey, I created LRD Academy! LRD Academy’s ‘secret sauce’ is a comprehensive understanding of the Behavioral Science behind weight loss. So much so that some people call Kate the ‘Mindset Master’ or the ‘Routine Queen.’

Unlike most programs with rigid guidelines and quick fixes, LRD Academy takes a holistic approach to weight loss. We aren’t just looking at the physical—what you eat and how you move—we’re also looking at your mental, emotional and spiritual well-being to create results that last.

Specifically, LRD Academy programs focus on nutrition, meditation, and habit-forming behaviors to shift your mindset around losing weight and create sustainable life habits to prevent you from “falling off track” again and again.

We believe true health begins with proper nutrition, lifestyle habits, and mind-body balance.

That’s why everything we do in LRD Academy comes back to your mindset, routine, nutrition, and daily movement. We believe these are the keys to weight management, confidence, and overall happiness and that’s why our clients quickly learn the importance of positive affirmations, established boundaries, and self-care prioritization.

In an industry absolutely saturated with false information, we keep our focus by taking things back to nature.

We do…

Maintain that a whole-foods, plant-based diet is the ultimate healing protocol for every human being

Show women how easy it is to restore their bodies from the inside out without feeling deprived

Create lifestyle changes in all areas to set our clients up for sustainable change

Focus on the positive in every situation, but also tell the hard truths

We do not…

Support low carb, high fat/protein diets

Support rigid workout routines, or “cheat meals”

Condone quick-fix weight loss or aggressive dieting tactics

Tolerate negativity

Believe that just because things are the way they are, they need to stay that way,

After 12 years of doing things the wrong way, I condensed all of my wisdom and experience into an easy Five-Step System to help women avoid making the same mistakes I did. I created LRD Academy, the program I so longed for in my journey, so that women everywhere would know true, lasting change.

This is the program I wish I had access to when I first started my weight loss journey, and I intend to make it the last program you ever have to sign up for.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
