Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jill Bamrick.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started working in restaurants when I was 15 years old — from hosting to serving to food running to bartending. I made the move to Detroit in 2020, but before that, I decided that getting a job in the city would push me to make the move. I drove around deciding which restaurants to apply to, my last stop being Bobcat Bonnie’s.
I started working at the Corktown location in October of 2019 as a server; once we returned from COVID, I began bartending, and in 2022, I was offered the position as their Director of Social Media — which is what I have been doing ever since! I do all of the social media for Bobcat Bonnie’s, The Fly Trap, and Keystone Bar & Arcade.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To be blunt — it has not been a smooth road. From having to be independent at a very young age to moving during a pandemic to learning not to live off of tips anymore, I wouldn’t change a thing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
In the past two years, I’ve learned so much and have grown so much in my position. I love food & beverage photography as well as helping tell a restaurant’s story.
I’m constantly striving to get better, whether that be in photography, producing video content, or more of the marketing side of things — it’s been some of the best couple years of my life, and I love even more that I’m able to still be in the restaurant industry.
Any big plans?
Improve all of my skills in the social media, marketing & photography world. I’m excited for the next couple of years!
