Conversations with Jason Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Brown.

Jason, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I founded PublicCity PR with a vision that was both practical and deeply personal: helping brands, organizations, and public figures communicate with authenticity in a rapidly changing media landscape.

Early on, I recognized that traditional public relations firms often focused more on being a one-stop shop for all things communications and metrics more than meaningful connection and results. I always thought there was a better/different approach—one rooted in being an expert in a few strategic areas (media and community relations) while providing high-level strategy, important storytelling, and genuine relationships with communities and media outlets alike.

What began as a small solo venture quickly evolved into PublicCity PR, a firm built on the idea that every client has a story worth telling. I combined my background in communications and media relations with an entrepreneurial mindset, allowing the company to grow organically through reputation and results. Rather than chasing trends, I focused on helping clients build long-term credibility and visibility. This approach seemed to work, as we quickly establish ourselves as a trusted partner for businesses, nonprofits, entertainers, and civic organizations looking to strengthen their public presence.

Almost 18 years later, I believe we are still true to our original mission: creating impactful communication that connects people, businesses, and communities.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While it hasn’t been a perfect road, I do feel very lucky and blessed that I have been able to keep PublicCity running these last 18 years. Have had it’s ups and downs but has always remained steady despite any economic factors the country may have faced along the way.

Struggles? Not from a revenue perspective. I think the struggles were more finding the right minded clients and having clients who understood and respected our philosophies.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So we are truly a specialty PR firm. We focus on two key areas, Media Relations and Community Relations. If a client asks us to create a new website for them, or develop an advertising/marketing campaign or manage their social media accounts, we find like minded experts in their fields to support them. We never take on something we can’t do. I think that laser focus has been one of the reasons for our success since 2008.

One of our most proudest moments is when we had a feature that we had featured in PR Week, the leading trade magazine of the PR industry. A small agency amongst the giants getting featured for our good work. That was a real eye opening moment.

Now in general, I am most proud of when we hear from our clients that our work made a difference. Don’t need a pat on the back, but it’s nice to know that our work directly related to their success. That never gets old.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I always say, I have a new business army out there and have no idea how large it is. So I always appreciate any referrals we receive and we too try to return the favor when we can. Always up for collaborations with like minded individuals who want to help their clients or businesses succeed.
