Conversations with Jasmine Lipsey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Lipsey.

Hi Jasmine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I have always been interested in art and beauty. I started going to cosmetology school while I was still in high school but I faced many challenges during school that lead me to drop out.

When I was 18, I decided to begin modeling and I enrolled in QC Makeup Academy.

I modeled professionally throughout my twenties all while doing makeup on myself and other models. I moved to Los Angeles when I was 23, my life changed forever but not in the way you might expect.

By 25 I moved back home to Grand Rapids.

I got a job at Sephora, where they sent me to Sephora University to certify me to become one of their beauty class teachers. I worked for Sephora for 3 years teaching classes and eventually was picked up by Amway Global. I signed with Amway for 6 months after going on tour with them to Austin, Miami, Chicago and New York teaching Makeup on stage.

Fast forward to today, I run my own Makeup and hair artistry business called RoseHand Art & Co.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Most of the struggles I faced along the way have been mental. I’ve had to overcome depression as well as anxiety and really get a grip on my mindset. Being an entrepreneur, the road is sometimes an uphill battle and sometimes it’s smooth sailing. The path ahead isn’t always clear but faith and trust go a long way on reaching your goals.

It’s important to stay on top of your mental health to deal with any stressors that may arise! You can do anything you put your mind to!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a full-time professional makeup artist! I am also a beauty educator who loves to share my knowledge with aspiring MUAs, seasoned MUAs, and clients of all ages!

I personally specialize in enhancing your natural beauty and editorial looks. I’m very versatile as an artist so I am able to create or teach you any look you desire!

There is something I call “makeup chemistry” where I build trust and chemistry with my client to truly understand their idea of beauty so we can achieve their desired results.

I am known for my fast and efficient work both in bridal and fashion. You’ll often find me taking on the lead makeup artist role for fashion shows in Grand Rapids and Detroit.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Being a community-based person! Be open and have a positive mindset. Connect with those around you on social media and in real life. Go to mixers, pop-up shops, get to know your community!

Find what makes you, you and focus on your strengths. Don’t be afraid to let people know who you are!

Finding the right mentor can be tricky, you want someone that has good intentions for you and is open to sharing their knowledge with you. Both the good and the bad.
