Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Russell.
Greg, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve worked on air on TV and radio in Detroit for well over 30 years. I’m one of those people who knew what they wanted to do at age of 5 years old and have been blessed to follow their dream. The real story started 21 years ago. I became very ill and it turns out I had had a massive pulmonary embolism. Well, news like that makes you think. I have always loved movies. So, I decided to follow my passion and become a movie reviewer. Along with that came the opportunity to become a celebrity interviewer. Fast forward to today…. I’ve been blessed for over 20 years to travel this world to interview movie stars and watch movies.
I also started a city tour business in Detroit in 2018. It’s called Russell Brothers City Tours. I love telling stories about my city and showing it off. I love when people say that I just told them something about Detroit that they never knew and they’ve lived here their whole life. I love my city and I love showing it off.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
For sure not a smooth ride. However, it wasn’t as bumpy as it could have been. I was fortunate to meet so many good people along the way. Sometimes when situations would come up it only takes a phone call to help get answers. There were, of course, plenty of times when you would have to bump your head to get things back on track. The main thing is to keep your eye on the prize.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What I’m doing now is a dream come true. I get to watch movies as a profession and interview movie stars. I’m most proud of the fact that I built this business on my own. What sets me apart from others is my interview style. I’ve heard on more than one occasion after the interview where the celebrity would say it was more like talking to a friend than doing an interview.
What do you think about luck?
In 2001 I was in the hospital with a massive pulmonary embolism. The doctor told me I should have been dead. I re-evaluated my life and decided to do something that I wanted to do and it was my lifelong love of movies that got me into this.
