Conversations with Emily Wentland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Wentland.

Hi Emily , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Weddings have always felt like home to me. I studied hospitality and tourism at Grand Valley State University, where I fell in love with the intricate beauty of wedding planning—the seamless coordination, the artistry in the details, and the way a well-executed vision creates unforgettable moments. As a naturally organized and detail-driven person, this industry felt like the perfect fit.

During college, I immersed myself in hands-on experience through internships, which gave me the confidence to launch In the Details Weddings immediately after graduating. While the world slowed down in 2020, I spent those months refining the foundation of my business, ensuring that when I stepped into my first official wedding season in 2021, I was prepared to serve my couples with excellence.

Since then, my journey has been about more than just planning beautiful events—it’s about crafting an engagement experience that allows my brides to be fully present in this season. I’ve built a team to ensure I can continue showing up wholeheartedly for my couples, and over time, this work has taken on a deeper meaning.

Getting married myself three years ago shifted my perspective. While I’ve always cared about the details of the wedding day, I now have an even greater passion for what comes after the vows. I want my brides to have the time, space, and support to build a strong foundation for their marriage—without the stress of planning consuming them.

What started as a career that played to my strengths has grown into something much bigger—a calling to serve brides in a way that honors both their wedding day and the beautiful life that follows.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would be lying if I said the road has been perfectly smooth. Like most wedding industry professionals, I was drawn to this work because of my love for the craft—not necessarily for the business side of things. While I’ve been blessed with both the creative and strategic skills to build a thriving planning business, the behind-the-scenes logistics—taxes, finances, legalities, and team-building—have been muscles I’ve had to strengthen over time.

I firmly believe that to run a truly exceptional wedding planning business, you have to be both a skilled craftswoman and a strong business owner. It’s a balance I work to refine every single day. Along the way, we’ve had our fair share of wild experiences—unexpected vendor challenges, complex family dynamics, and those high-pressure moments that test every ounce of patience and professionalism. But rather than letting those moments define us, we use them to refine how we serve our clients. Every challenge is a lesson that makes us stronger, sharper, and more intentional in how we approach wedding planning.

Through it all, my faith has been my anchor. Running a business—especially in an industry as high-stakes and emotionally charged as weddings—comes with its share of stress, but I’ve found so much peace in knowing that I’m not navigating it alone. My faith gives me the confidence to trust in the bigger picture, to handle challenges with grace, and to serve my brides with a heart that’s truly present. It reminds me that my work is about more than just creating beautiful wedding days—it’s about stewarding this season well for my couples and helping them step into marriage with joy and intention.

Our growth has been steady, but 2025 is about taking In the Details Weddings to the next level. We’re not just here to plan beautiful weddings—we’re here to elevate the entire engagement experience, setting a new standard for what it means to have a truly seamless, stress-free journey to the altar. Big things are coming, and we’re ready to make waves in the wedding industry.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At In the Details Weddings, we do more than plan beautiful weddings—we create an engagement experience that allows our brides to be fully present in this once-in-a-lifetime season. We specialize in full-service wedding planning and design, catering to couples who want a refined, seamless, and deeply intentional approach to their wedding day.

Our signature is in the details—those carefully curated, personal touches that transform a wedding from simply beautiful to truly unforgettable. From orchestrating a stress-free planning process to designing meaningful moments that reflect each couple’s unique story, we ensure that every aspect of the day is thoughtfully considered and flawlessly executed.

What sets us apart is our heart behind the planning. We don’t just focus on logistics; we prioritize the experience. We believe engagement shouldn’t feel like a to-do list—it should be a season of joy, anticipation, and growth. That’s why we take the weight of planning off our brides’ shoulders, allowing them to focus on what truly matters: building a strong foundation for marriage.

While we specialize in full-service planning, we also offer day-of coordination for couples who have handled most of the planning themselves but want to be fully present on their wedding day. Our team steps in during those final weeks to finalize details, manage vendors, and ensure a seamless execution—so our couples can celebrate without stress, knowing everything is taken care of.

One of the things we’re most proud of is the way our work extends beyond the wedding day. While we love designing breathtaking celebrations, we’re even more passionate about what comes next—helping our couples step into marriage feeling prepared, connected, and at peace. Our approach is rooted in service, ensuring every couple feels cared for, understood, and supported from the moment they say “Yes” to the moment they say “I do.”

At the end of the day, our goal is simple: to create an engagement and wedding experience that feels effortless, intentional, and truly unforgettable.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
For me, happiness comes from the moments when I see everything come together—not just the wedding details, but the emotions, the joy, and the meaning behind the day. It’s watching a bride take that deep breath before walking down the aisle, knowing she is fully present in the moment because she didn’t spend her engagement buried in stress. I always find my eyes welling up with tears as the entire planning process flashes before my eyes. Seeing it all happen that day is simply the best.

I find so much joy in serving my brides beyond just planning their wedding. Helping them reclaim their time, step into their marriage with confidence, and enjoy an engagement season filled with peace instead of pressure—that’s what makes my work so fulfilling. I love the beauty of wedding design and the logistics of seamless execution, but what truly makes me happy is knowing my couples feel cared for, supported, and genuinely excited for the life they’re building together.

On a personal level, my faith in Jesus and my own marriage bring me deep happiness. Being able to live out my calling, create meaningful experiences for my couples, and come home to a life filled with love and purpose—there’s nothing better than that.
