Conversations with Dylan Barnes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Barnes.  

Hi Dylan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Just a normal kid who loved and enjoyed playing lots of video games. I mainly played Pokémon and Call of Duty. Call of Duty I tried joining teams and create YouTube content. I got tired of Call of Duty and switch over to the first game series I ever played Pokémon. I began creating content on YouTube and Live streaming on twitch of Pokémon in 2013. I go by the name Poijz on all platforms. (Poise or j is silent) 8-10 years later I am a twitch partner and YouTube channel over 20k. I believe hard work pays off. I streamed every day for 2 years to get to twitch partner and have uploaded almost every day on YouTube for 2-3 years. I recently became a dad of twins born 23 weeks and 5 days on both born 1.4 ozs on 12/31/21. I can’t wait to share my love with them. The odds of them making it out of the first month was less than 20%. The community I have built has shared and helped so much. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. Being a content Creator is difficult. Streams you’re not always gonna make money or have everyone show up you just have to adjust and not show your frustrations. A video you make and spend a lot of time on might not always get a lot of views or subscribers. Growth is slow at times. There is gonna be difficulties just have to take the bumps and go. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a content creator after hours. I am a Pharmacy Buyer at MyMichigan Health. I have worked here for 7 years and in Pharmacy for 10 years. I am in charge of ordering medications for the whole hospital so we can give and make for our patients. I started out as a Pharmacy Courier / Regular technician and eventually moved up over the years. In 2020 I was nominated for top performer of the year award for my work would be what I am most proud of. I always look to improve the department and try make it easier for everyone and work hard to make it a better place. 

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have worked with a fair amount of Pharmacy Technicians that have helped along the way. Just getting the basics from my MyMichigan staff and learning the rest on my own has definitely helped a lot. 

My community and the Pokémon community have helped so much for my family along the way be thanks to them.
