Today we’d like to introduce you to Deann Jordan
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in the City of Detroit. I was raised by my mother Clinnetta Jordan and a village that included my grandmother Paralee Thomas, aunts and uncles. I attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Pershing High School. I also attended University of Phoenix where I received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. I obtained a Master of Science in Health Services Administration from Central MI University.
I have been employed with the State of MI Department of health and human services for almost 14 years. I am also real estate agent with Front Page Properties and a Notary. I am also the founder of Circle of Friends Youth Foundation. We have provided scholarships, hosted leadership and drug prevention conferences. I am a member of Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Curtis R. Grant.
I am the mother of son, Jawan and the grandmother of Mariah and Mira.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life is like a roller coaster as my mother would say. However, what I thought were obstacles and challenges actually were not compared to losing my mother and all of my village within the last eight years, I have struggled with grief and at times loneliness. God, family and counseling have been my sources of strength throughout my journey of grief.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I know that my purpose in life is to serve. I have worked in some area of customer service since the age of 16. Currently, as an eligibility specialist with MDHHS I’m working with the Michigan’s most vulnerable citizens. The job is very stressful at times, and you have to have a sense of humility and compassion to work in that capacity. I have always had the heart and passion to improve the community especially the lives of our young people. I always want to make a positive difference in the lives of the people I come in contact with.
My passion for being a realtor is to help people become homeowners and to create generational wealth. I’m also passionate about closing the homeownership gap. There is wealth in owning real estate and we all deserve to live the American dream of homeownership.
I’m also currently in school to become a licensed appraiser which would allow me to help with changing the narrative of appraisal bias in urban communities.
What sets me a part is my compassion and always treating people how I want to be treated.
I’m most proud of how I have not given up on life. These last eight years have been a lot but through God’s grace I’m still standing.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is God and family. I know it’s only through God that I’m able to keep going. My son, grandchildren and extended family are what matters most to me.
